Midnight Mania! Mike Tyson breaks ground on marijuana ranch in California

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Mike Tyson continues his long-term quest for financial stability in his later career, recently breaking ground on a marijuana ranch in Southern California. As reported on the Blast, it will be called “Tyson Ranch”, and will have “a hydro-feed plant and supply store, extraction facility, edible factory, premium “glamping” campgrounds and cabins, an amphitheater and the Tyson Cultivation School to teach new growers.”, in addition to 20 acres set aside to actually grow marijuana. It will be designed so that it “will allow master growers to have maximum control of their environment.” The plant became officially legal in California for recreational use on January 1st.

Tyson has a personal history with the drug, even being fined for it in 2000, and has admitted to smoking marijuana in his memoir. A firm believer in it’s healing qualities, he plans to focus on high-quality THC and CBD, as well as fund research into medicinal effects of the drug. California City mayor Jennifer Wood says she hopes the ranch will be a “rebirth” for the city, and the company that manages the property, Tyson Holistic, is comprised of mostly veterans. Providing jobs for previous members of the armed forces is a priority of the venture, especially as Edwards Air Force base is nearby.

The Diaz brothers and Anthony Johnson, among others, are surely taking notes of the proceedings.

Midnight Mania! Joe Rogan thinks Francis Ngannou has UFC looking at “Mike Tyson days”

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Joe Rogan thinks Francis Ngannou could be the UFC’s modern version of Mike Tyson. He has finished all six of his UFC fights, most of them in the first round, and according to the UFC’s measurement, he holds a world record for power, beating out professional kickboxer Tyrone Spong. However dubious that distinction may be, it is no secret Ngannou has mind-numbing power. Via MMAJunkie.com:

“Now they’ve got a star,” Rogan said. “I think Ngannou, one or two more fights, you’re going to be looking at Mike Tyson days. That’s what I think. You’re going to watch fights just to see how long these mother(expletives) can survive against this guy. That’s what I think. That could be their big, breakout star.”

The story is certainly there. Ngannou came up from nothing, going from a child working in sand mines, to wandering the streets homeless in Paris, to the next UFC title contender. He used his platform after his win over Overeem at UFC 218 to bring attention to the human slavery happening in Libya. He’s a gentle, soft-spoken, terrifying giant, a PR dream. The real question is, will the UFC be able to adjust their usual monotonous messaging to capitalize on the obvious potential?

Ngannou, if indeed he does establish himself as a Pay-Per-View star, would fill a hole in the current UFC landscape. Ronda is transitioning to the WWE, GSP’s future is uncertain (but probably won’t include defending that middleweight belt) and Conor is spending most his nights waiting outside after-parties and punching folks connected to the mob.

“Conor, who knows if he’s ever going to fight again,” Rogan said. “We really don’t know. We haven’t heard Conor saying, ‘This is my plan. This is who I’m thinking of fighting. This is who I want to fight.’ He’s been talking (expletive) to Max Holloway, he’s been talking (expletive) to Tony Ferguson, but he’s not set it up.”

Ngannou will face Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight belt at UFC 220 on January 20th in Boston, headlining above a light heavyweight title fight between Daniel Cormier and Volkan Oezdemir. The double headliner seems to be a gamble by the UFC to get as many eyes as possible on this heavyweight fight. Stipe Miocic has won his last five fights via knockout, four in the first round; if he wins, he will set the heavyweight record with three consecutive title defenses. If Ngannou wins, the world is his oyster.

Eddie Alvarez recounting his fight with Justin Gaethje:

Is Ben Askren hinting GSP may come back to welterweight to fight him, or his friend Tyron Woodley?

Don’t try Saul Alvarez’s neck exercises at home, kids.

CSA gym has a rule not to back up more than three times in sparring, which would improve the striking of so many MMA fighters

This is extremely exciting, mostly because I love watching Robert Whittaker fight. I never thought GSP would defend his belt against Whittaker, no matter how pissed Dana White said he would be.

“Fart noise” is what Kelvin Gastelum thinks of this.

Mike Tyson: Conor McGregor is going to look ridiculous boxing Floyd Mayweather

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is prepared to loan its lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, to the “sweet science” for a potential Floyd Mayweather Jr. boxing showdown later this year in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Let’s hope it comes with a hybrid rule set.

Otherwise, “Notorious” runs the risk of looking “ridiculous” against one of boxing’s finest technicians, who stymied even the greatest of pugilists. That’s according to former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

Who is not two-faced.

“Only way it could ruin boxing is if McGregor goes and boxes Floyd because he’s going to look really ridiculous boxing him,” Tyson told SiriusXM Sports. “But if he goes in there with the UFC stuff, now this could be pretty interesting. He doesn’t win in a boxing match.”

No more gushing?

McGregor recently came to terms on the financial side of his “Money” fight; however, Team UFC must now wait for Mayweather to shit or get off the pot. The promotion’s lightweight division, meanwhile, is still on hold.

For now.
