Khabib Nurmagomedov Is Threatening To Leave UFC If They Punish His Team

By now everyone on the planet has seen the clips: After tapping out Conor McGregor at UFC 229, champ Khabib Nurmagomedov vaults the cage and jumps into the audience to scrap. And while Khabib is throwing down, his teammates leap into the cage to throw knuckles at McGregor.

It goes without saying that there are some parties that deserve punishment for their actions. No doubt the Nevada State Athletic Commission is going to drop the hammer – they’re still holding on to Khabib’s paycheck.

But the UFC is punishing Zubaira Tukhugov, who punched Conor and was supposed to face Artem Lobov at the next UFC Fight Night.

Khabib is having none of that. The Dagestani champ says that if the UFC punishes his teammates for the fracas, then he’s quitting the organization.

Yikes!

I would like to address @ufc Why didn’t you fire anyone when their team attacked the bus and injured a couple of people? They could have killed someone there, why no one says anything about insulting my homeland, religion, nation, family? Why do you have to punish my team, when both teams fought. If you say that I started it, then I do not agree, I finished what he had started. In any case, punish me, @zubairatukhugov has nothing to do with that. If you think that I’ll keep silent then you are mistaken. You canceled Zubaira’s fight and you want to dismiss him just because he hit Conor. But don’t forget that it was Conor who had hit my another Brother FIRST, just check the video. if you decide to fire him, you should know that you’ll lose me too. We never give up on our brothers in Russia and I will go to the end for my Brother. If you still decide to fire him, don’t forget to send me my broken contract, otherwise I’ll break it myself. And one more thing, you can keep my money that you are withholding. You are pretty busy with that, I hope it won’t get stuck in your throat. We have defended our honor and this is the most important thing. We intend to go to the end. #Brothers

Jose Aldo Is Threatening to Sue Chael Sonnen and the UFC for Defamation, Apparently

(Aldo, seen here checking out his new fighter kit.)

While Jose Aldo has never been one to mince words with the UFC brass, the idea that he might actually bring legal action against his employers has never been something we considered with much gravitas. That is…UNTIL NOW. MAYBE. (Probably not).

See, when Aldo was forced to withdraw from UFC 189 with what was at first being called a fractured rib, the UFC — as it so often does — went into something of a panic mode, stating that the featherweight champion’s rib was *not* fractured and bringing in their own team of doctors to dispute the seriousness his injury. Dana White took things a step further in claiming that Aldo’s “fear of making weight” was behind his withdrawal from UFC 189, a sentiment which Chael Sonnen more or less echoed while questioning Aldo’s injury on his podcast, You’re Welcome.

During the most recent episode of Sonnen’s aforementioned podcast, however, the former middleweight and light heavyweight title challenger revealed that his speculation could land him (and his former promotion) in some (more) legal trouble if he didn’t shut up about it already.

I get a phone call. So I answer it on the car speaker. It’s a lawyer from Brazil threatening to sue me for defamation. Her client? Jose Aldo.

“They said, ‘we won’t sue you if you stop talking about it.’ I said, ‘Hold on, I’ll go a step further than that, if I said it and it’s not true, I’ll give them an apology.’ I don’t want to go around saying the guy put out two X-rays if that’s not true, but I’m a little confused here. I parroted this information, I heard it and I repeated it, so where did this story come from? I heard this at a UFC press conference.

“The attorney said, ‘yeah, well pay attention in the next few days, you won’t hear the UFC saying it anymore because before we called and threatened you with a lawsuit, we called and threatened them with a lawsuit.’

“I have to assume he’s telling the truth. Jose Aldo is threatening to sue me and claims that he threatened to sue the UFC. That’s a pretty big bluff. That’s a big enough bluff that I think he’s telling the truth.

I don’t mean to add fuel to the fire here ( I totally do), but does anyone remember who was the last guy who threatened to sue Sonnen for similar claims? Lance Armstrong. Chael Sonnen is a prophet, a truthsayer of the highest caliber, and it’s clear to me that Aldo is only shaking him down because he knows that Sonnen is hot on his trail. It’s a scandal, I tells ya! One that goes all the way to the tippy top!!

Domestic violence, unwarranted firings, and fighters suing fighters and employers alike. Tough week, eh, Dana?

UFC Fight Night 38: Will Chope discharged from Air Force in 2011 for assaulting wife and threatening her with knife

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight Will Chope was discharged from the United States Air Force back in 2011 for assaulting his wife and threatening her with a knife.

If there’s one thing that Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) needs to improve upon, it’s checking the history of its fighters. The Las Vegas-based promotion does so many things correctly, but unfortunately, a simple background check more often than not just isn’t done.

It’s how the promotion signed a fighter such as Benjamin Brinsa, who was later released after it came out that he had ties to a Neo-Nazi soccer firm. It’s how Strikeforce signed and promoted a fighter such as Brandon Sailing, who had Neo-Nazi tattoos on his chest.

The latest is Will Chope, who fights Diego Brandao at UFC Fight Night: “Shogun vs. Henderson 2″ tomorrow night (March 23, 2014) on FOX Sports 1.

Chope is a former Airman in the United States Air Force. “Former” is the qualifier as he was relieved of duty in 2011 on a bad-conduct discharge while serving on the Anderson Air Force Base in Guam with his ex-wife and infant daughter.

According to a report obtained by Bleacher Report, Chope and his wife had a “tumultuous” marriage that caused her to be unfaithful. When he found out, he physically assaulted her on numerous occasions.

In response, the appellant’s commander imposed nonjudicial punishment on the appellant in July 2009 and again in November 2009 after the appellant assaulted AW on 12 October 2009. The following day, the appellant’s first sergeant, Master Sergeant (MSgt) BT gave the appellant a no-contact order which stated that the appellant was “to have no contact with [AW] directly or indirectly, orally or in writing,” unless he had permission from a supervisor. On 12 November 2009, MSgt BT gave the appellant permission to speak to AW only by phone “in order to facilitate some financial issues” involving their daughter.

During that phone call, Chope and his wife got into an argument about a shared credit card. He asked his wife to pick him up so that he could see his daughter, which she agreed to do. At that time, Chope continued the argument regarding the credit card.

The report states that Chope threatened to hurt her if she did not give him the credit card. When she refused, he stated he had nothing to lose and was returning to Florida. It’s then that the story takes an extremely cruel and violent turn.

He then went to the kitchen, retrieved a paring knife, and threatened AW with it. He grabbed her, slammed her head onto the floor, and hit her on top of her head with both the knife handle and his hand. When AW screamed for help, the appellant took her onto the ground, and used a “pillow or blanket” to silence her screams.

Chope attempted to appeal the court’s decision, stating that he and his wife were divorced and he wouldn’t be acting out in the future; however, the court didn’t find his sentence to be inappropriately severe.

MMAmania.com has reached out to UFC for an official comment regarding Will Chope and will update the story as more informant becomes available.

UFC’s Thiago Silva arrested for allegedly threatening his wife and jiu-jitsu school owner

A report by the NBC affiliate in South Florida indicated an arrest of the owner of a home, with the address listed as being owned by UFC fighter Thiago Silva, after an armed suspect allegedly threatened people at the Pablo Popovitch Mixed Martial Arts Academy.

Update: Thiago Silva faces multiple charges, including two counts of commit/attempt specified felony could cause death, aggravated battery with deadly weapon, and resisting officer-obstruct without violence.

NBC news in South Florida reported Thursday night that an armed suspect entered a Jiu Jitsu school in Oakland Park, FL and threatened people there before the Broward Sheriff’s Office was called at about 7:45 p.m. The address listed, 777 E. Oakland Park Blvd., was of the Pablo Popovitch Mixed Martial Arts Academy.

The reported suspect left the facility and locked himself inside what was reported to be his home at 2041 Coral Heights Blvd., in Fort Lauderdale, the home owned by UFC fighter Thiago Silva.

A SWAT team set up a perimeter around the home, and at about 11:15 p.m., the person in the home, whose name was not released by police, was taken into custody.

Popovitch is the trainer of Thaysa Silva, the wife of Thiago Silva, and a high level competitive black belt in BJJ.

UFC officials released the following statement late Thursday night.

“This evening, we were made aware of a situation involving Thiago Silva. We are in the process of gathering the facts and have no further comment at this time.”

Silva, who has a 16-3 record with 2 no contests, was scheduled to face Ovince St. Preux at UFC 171 on March 15 in Dallas, Tex.

Silva’s two no contests were overturned decisions in fights he had originally won. He defeated Brandon Vera on January 1, 2011, a decision overturned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission when the urine he left for his sample in a drug test was determined to not be human urine.

A win over Stanislav Nedkov on November 10, 2012, was overturned when he tested positive for marijuana in testing conducted by the UFC at a show in Macau, China.
