Midnight Mania! The Internet Can’t Stop Roasting New UFC Belt

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

The Internet spent much of today making fun of the new UFC belt design.

The Thanos comparisons came early

Max Holloway wanted rings

This is what he is talking about:

I think the new belt looks fine, but these were still funny

It was endless

Even Conor McGregor couldn’t make the new belt design seem cool

Al Iaquinta roasted him too

Now I just miss my old Indiglo watch

The UFC did have one response to a critical fan that was so good, he just conceded defeat and deleted his tweet.

Midnight Mania! Domestic Violence Won’t Stop Ostovich: ‘I Want To Take a Stand’

Rachael Ostovich

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Rachael Ostovich opened up about the reason she has opted to continue with her scheduled January 19th bout against Paige VanZant despite recently suffering injury from a brutal domestic violence incident that she reported had her coughing up blood as her husband punched her repeatedly in the face and body. She said she felt like she ‘have to do this’ because the platform gives her an opportunity to stand tall for other victims of domestic violence. Via KHON2.com:

“Although this is a very difficult time for me and my family, I felt that this fight in January was important. I felt that it was extremely important to me to follow through with it, not only for me but first for my daughter, and other people that might be going through similar situations. I want to take a stand against domestic violence, and show others that its okay to come out and speak about it, and not be quiet.

“I’m extremely grateful and blessed for my support system. My family, who has done so much for me and has kept me together and kept me strong. I feel like I am- like I have to do this. This is something that can’t be taken away from me, because I want to use this big, worldwide UFC platform to show people that, don’t let anyone or anything come between you and your career.”

Mr. Berdon, her husband, has pleaded innocent to the charges, downgraded from attempted murder, posted his $ 75,000 dollar bail, and is currently free until his next court date, December 18, 2018. He is under a temporary restraining order that extends to their 5-year-old child.

Ostovich is scheduled to face VanZant at the UFC’s ESPN+ debut January 19th in Brooklyn. Her training is limited currently, but she will transition back to full contact after getting a second opinion on the severity of her injuries.

Her incident is one of several to affect high-profile UFC fighters, including Jessica Rose-Clark and Andrea Lee. MMA, according to an HBO study, suffers from a much higher incidence of domestic violence than the general population, or even the NFL. In fact Dana White recently signed former NFL player Greg Hardy to a development contract after his history with domestic violence ended his football career.

They also are promoting a cross-promotion superfight between Darrion Caldwell and Kyoji Horiguchi that is going to be awesome.

This exhibition bout, of course, is still happening as well, which is going to bring an insane amount of attention to the event.

Showing great knockouts is tried and true, but still a good way to promote fights.

Stop A Near-Riot, Get Free UFC Tickets

After Khabib Nurmagomedov went nuts and leaped the Octagon to get at Dillon Danis shortly after submitting Conor McGregor at UFC 229, Daniel Cormier jumped into the cage to try and diffuse the situation.

With Khabib looking up to “DC” as the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) captain, training partner and friend, “The Eagle” took Daniel’s advice and eventually got his emotions in check.

“I was trying to go up to talk to him and they kept pushing me. But he kept telling them, ‘This is my capitan, let him through.’ So when I finally got close enough to him I told him, ‘Hey, what in the world is going on? What are you doing? You have got to calm down,” said Cormier during a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani MMA Show.

“And he said, ‘Okay capitan, give me my belt.’ The dude was worked up. I have honestly never seen him act like that.”

To hear “DC” tell the tale, his son also jumped over the cage to help his dad, but was ultimately restrained by UFC security. Seriously.

For his efforts in calming the melee down, Cormier says the promotion refunded him the money he spent on front-row tickets he purchased for his entire family to attend the event.

“I buy tickets. I buy tickets for my kids to go to the fights. We were given tickets and I buy tickets and then the whole fight happens,” explained Cormier. “Then Dana calls me back and says ‘We are giving you your money back becasue you helped us calm everybody down. We can’t charge you for tickets.’

It’s a good thing, too, because Octagon-side seats weren’t cheap.

UFC also paid Daniel a hefty sum — according to the man himself — to defend his heavyweight title against Derrick Lewis at the upcoming UFC 230 pay-per-view (PPV) event inside Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y.

Midnight Mania! Nick Diaz on Woodley-Till: ‘Stop Making Bullsh*t Fights’

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Nick Diaz weighed in on the Woodley-Till fight that went down this past weekend. In his estimation, it seems he thought Woodley took an easy fight in the form of Darren Till. It certainly ended up a one-sided bout, with Till landing barely a strike before succumbing to ground-and-pound and a Woodley choke in the second round.

“I missed the whole fight… I’ve never had an easy fight in my life. Fight that kid… I wouldn’t take one. It’s like… stop making bullshit fights with this guy!”

Nick Diaz hasn’t had a fight since his 2015 middleweight bout with Anderson Silva. He hasn’t had a win in the Octagon since 2011. Could we see the former Strikeforce welterweight champion make his return to MMA in the near future? He was recently cleared of a domestic violence charge, and has stated plans to return in 2019 after being serving a trumped-up suspension for weed use.

Holly Holm Ain’t Retiring, So Stop Asking

You know who isn’t considering retiring? Holly Holm.

I mean, why would she? She only lost four out of her last six fights. And couldn’t win the UFC’s new female featherweight title in two tries. And lost the bantamweight title in her first fight as champ by getting choked unconscious by Miesha Tate.

Still, being the first to knock out Ronda Rousey, and then two years knocking out Bethe Correia, buys you a lot of leeway in a pair of female divisions with very little top talent.

At UFC 219, Holm gave champ Cris Cyborg a hell of a fight, but ultimately lost a clear-cut decision. Here’s she is talking to Ariel Helwani on “The MMA Hour” about the future.

“Why wouldn’t I want to return when I just gave her the toughest fight in weight class that is a heavier weight class from where I usually fight against the biggest person?” Holm asked. “I was the one who gave her her toughest fight so I don’t really understand the retirement, you know, people think should you retire maybe it’s just because of the way that, you know how those four fights have gone.”

“I know I’m still competitive, have a lot of capabilities if I want to do it. I definitely don’t have the, obviously every year gets a little bit more, maybe I can kind of coming closer. I’m 36, I’ll be 37 next year, I still feel like I’m strong and in competitive shape. I don’t feel 36. I feel competitive and I feel strong feel and I feel can really do well, so I’m keep going to keep going with it.”

In other news, Khabib standing next to Cain Velasquez looks massive ahead of his lightweight title fight at UFC 223 with Tony Ferguson, a fight that has already been booked and cancelled three times due to injuries and failed weight cuts.

Hopefully his injury-prone heavyweight teammate can muster his own comeback soon.
