White: Rockhold Vs Gustafsson Targeted For UFC 227

I guess Luke Rockhold is giving up on that Bisping rubber match.

Instead, the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight titleholder will make good on his promise to jump up to light heavyweight for a run at the division strap after his middleweight stint ended in disaster.

The means to that end would be a light heavyweight slugfest against two-time title contender Alexander Gustafsson, according to UFC President Dana White (via UFC Unfiltered), in a late summer showdown set for “The City of Angels.”

“In my perfect world, if everything goes perfect, and nothing ever goes perfect in this world, [it will be] Dillashaw vs Garbrandt, GSP vs Diaz would be the co-main, Gustafsson vs Rockhold and Brunson vs Antonio Carlos Jr.,” White said. “It’s very interesting.”

The aforementioned bouts — including the return of Georges St-Pierre — are planned for the upcoming UFC 227 pay-per-view (PPV) event on August 4, 2018 inside Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Rockhold (16-4) said goodbye to the 185-pound weight class after getting murdered by Yoel Romero at UFC 221. Gustafsson (18-4), meanwhile, has not competed since planting Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night 109 roughly one year back.

Whether or not this bout — or any others — comes to fruition remains to be seen.

Rockhold: If I Beat Gustafsson, I Should Be F—king Champion

Who’s up for another interim title?

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold, has abandoned his post at 185 pounds after a series of increasingly difficult weight cuts, instead opting for greener pastures in the light heavyweight class.

Just don’t expect him to waste time working his way up the 205-pound ladder, as Rockhold (16-4) already has his sights set on two-time title contender Alexander Gustafsson, which should land him another championship title.

The part-time model elaborates to Submission Radio:

“There’s a lot of interest in the fight. He’s a guy that’s been right there, that’s only lost to champions. He’s the top, he’s the cream of the crop in the division. You beat him, you basically are the champion. The only problem is that DC is the champion. So, what? I go fight Alexander Gustafsson when DC is fighting for the heavyweight title? I’m not gonna fight Gustafsson for nothing, and I’m not gonna put myself in the position where it creates a weird moment for me and DC. So, I think it all depends on what happens with this fight with him and Stipe. If that goes forward, yeah, I mean, I’ll fight Gustafsson. But once you beat Gustafsson, if DC’s out – If I beat Gustafsson, I should be the fucking champion. Just realistically. And I mean, if you think about it, he is the man to beat, other than DC. And so the whole division is in a weird space.”

If this guy was still here, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

The “weird space” was created when the promotion allowed reigning 205-pound champion, Daniel Cormier, the opportunity to head north and challenge heavyweight kingpin Stipe Miocic, a fight that happens this summer at the conclusion of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 27.

Until then, the man to beat is “The Mauler,” who appears to have no problem welcoming Rockhold to his new home. When and where that fight gets booked remains to be seen, but it sounds like we can say finally goodbye to this rubber match.

Bisping To Rockhold: We’re Not Fighting, Stick To Modeling

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion, Michael Bisping, has once again poured water on matchmaking flames, insisting a rubber match with Luke Rockhold is NOT in the works for July.

Despite opening the door to it just last month.

“I can categorically on the record state that I have not been offered a fight with (Rockhold) on July 7,” the semi-retired Bisping told MMA Fighting. “He shouldn’t be so keen to get knocked out again anyway. Stick to modeling. Judging by his last three fights, MMA certainly doesn’t appear his thing anymore.”

Rockhold recently said his “Count” trilogy was “on the table.”

The 185-pound division has undergone a pretty serious facelift since the last time they shared the Octagon (UFC 199 in June 2016). Robert Whittaker is now the middleweight champion and Yoel Romero — fresh off last month’s romantic massacre of Rockhold — is the No. 1 contender.

What a difference a few months makes.

Midnight Mania! Rockhold Is New Face of Polo Ralph Lauren Fragrance

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Top UFC middleweight Luke Rockhold got a big career win recently- not inside the Octagon, where he was last seen falling victim to the thunderous punches of Yoel Romero- but in his modeling career.

Rockhold was named the new face of Polo Ralph Lauren’s new fragrance, #PoloBlue.

Rockhold has been modeling for a while, but this is by far his biggest gig to date. This must be the culmination of what he was talking about in 2016:

“I’m doing well. I’m here (in New York) next week for fashion week. I‘ve got some big contracts that we are working up right now. I’m meeting some top brands and talking about some deals we can potentially jump into in that market, as far as modeling. I’m talking about getting paid. We’ll keep it under wraps. But we are talking top tier brands.”

Polo Ralph Lauren is certainly a top tier brand. Rockhold may use this income to take time off and re-evaluate his next career move, with a jump up to light heavyweight a possibility.

Jon Bones Jones responded to Meisha Tate’s response to his response to her criticism:

I didn’t see this whole thing happen earlier- it was a lot more surprising than I had pictured in my head, BJ Penn jumping out to attack Cris Cyborg at open workouts.

I never heard of Bruce Connal but apparently he was lead producer on all UFC PPVs, the guy behind the scenes making it all happen.

Midnight Mania! DC Rips Gus After Rockhold Callout

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

If you come for Daniel Cormier’s teammates, you better be ready for Cormier’s comeback.

I loved Gustafsson’s callout of Luke Rockhold, in which he did mention that he thought Cormier was holding up the light heavyweight title picture.

Cormier, though, wasn’t having it, reminding Gus that the lanky Swede last fought DC for the title coming off a loss with the hashtag #thegustafsonway

Of course, DC also fought for a title off a loss to Jon Jones. The difference, in his mind? He won his fight.

DC also thinks, trash talk aside, Luke Rockhold should take some time off.

Will Brooks is out of the UFC and into that high-dollar PFL tournament.

For those of you who have been asking when my next fight is… well, I’m not sure when the next will be but it will not be with the UFC but rather with the @profightleague in the Million Dollar tournament. I’ve been doing this for a while now and I understand the business side of it. I didn’t do the job that was expected of me and like all jobs I was released, rightfully so. Unfortunately, I under performed with the UFC and didn’t achieve the goal I wanted to with that opportunity. I regret nothing, I took a chance at something I wanted and came up short. The fighter/competitor in me is highly disappointed with myself for allowing things to get away from me. The UFC chapter is closed for now… I’d like to thank the UFC staff for treating me so well during my employment. From day one I was treated well and with respect. I appreciate that greatly. Now with that being said, I am moving forward toward the next chapter. I’m extremely excited and fired up to be part of the @profighteague and their rebirth. The timing is perfect because I’m in my own rebirth process as well. As always I’m going to represent this organization as professionally as I possibly can. I look forward to being a pivotal part of the PFL’s growth in this sport. All praise and glory to God. 1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. – Psalms 121:1-2 At my highest and my lowest, He’s been with me and seen me through to lands of milk and honey. Thank you God for blessing me with this incredible opportunity for my family and myself.
