Midnight Mania! McGregor Roasts ‘Twerp’ Coach For Picking Holloway in Rematch

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Conor McGregor was having none of Tristar coach Firas Zahabi’s claim that featherweight champion Max Holloway would tool him in a rematch. Holloway has won 13 straight fights since his 2013 loss to Conor McGregor, beaten Jose Aldo twice over, and defended his featherweight belt (see it in slow-motion here) with the most strikes ever landed in a UFC fight against Brian Ortega. In Zahabi’s mind, that is enough to pick him in a rematch with the former double champion. McGregor, though, did not take kindly to Zahabi’s analysis that Max would beat McGregor worse than Diaz.

Hey firaz. Young man afraid to get in and fight, himself. Stop talking about me like you know me, you twerp.

You are what age? Why are not in there yourself? Are you not up to it?

You rent dorms and hit a clock for a living.

Shut your pie, kid.

Zahabi, the longtime coach of double champion Georges St. Pierre and Bellator welterweight champion Rory Macdonald, is 38. He has picked against McGregor several times, according to MMA History Today, though it is worth noting he’s praised McGregor’s skill as well.

Not to be left out, UFC lightweight contender Al Iaquinta asked McGregor to roast him too, a wish the Irishman quickly granted.

Will we ever see McGregor and Holloway run it back? Who would you give the edge to if they did?

Jon Jones is proceeding under the assumption his hearing goes well for him.

This is my new gold standard for how good you can get on the double-end bag. His timing is impeccable.

Aaron Pico is one of the world’s most exciting prospects- perhaps THE most exciting prospect anywhere right now- and I’m predicting 2019 is his year to pick up a belt.

It’s true, no one cares about Colby Covington’s plight. It couldn’t happen to a more obnoxious person, but that doesn’t change the fact that the UFC stripped his interim belt at the first opportunity and now aren’t even giving him a title fight.

Covington might be onto something when he mentions the way Ali Abdelaziz lies for the UFC at the expense of the fighters.

Ben Askren was also right, though.

Sometimes these videos make me laugh, sometimes they just make me angry for some reason.

This dude is wearing the Black Panther suit, there is no other explanation for flexing off a taser like this.

Swanson Shoots Down Reports Of Aldo Rematch At UFC 233

Consider the gun officially jumped.

Cub Swanson will not be fighting Jose Aldo at the upcoming UFC 233 pay-per-view (PPV) event next month in Anaheim, Calif., despite online reports suggesting the deal was already done. The part-time brewer did, however, express interest in that potential rematch at a later date.

Swanson and Aldo have fought just about everyone there is to fight on the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) roster, including one another, thanks to more than a decade spent throwing hands in mixed martial arts (MMA).

Anyone else suddenly nostalgic for World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC)?

Aldo (27-4) ran through Swanson in just eight seconds at WEC 41 way back in 2009, part of a ridiculous 18-fight winning streak that included two championship titles and nine violent finishes. “Junior” was eventually upended by Conor McGregor at UFC 194 and has since gone 2-2 with a pair of losses to current champion Max Holloway.

After his drubbing against Aldo, Swanson (25-10) rebounded to win eight of his next 10, but has recently fallen on hard times. “Killer Cub” is mired in a three-fight losing streak in which he was finished twice, including last August’s submission loss to Brazilian wunderkind Renato Carneiro.

Not sure if the promotion (or Aldo) would be interested in holding off until February, but I don’t hate this fight, considering where both combatants are in their respective careers.

Anyone disagree?
