UFC Fight Night 125 Results: Tim Means and Sergio Moraes Slug It Out

Sergio Moraes earned a modicum of fan recognition by winning a few fights on a season of TUF Brasil, which makes him somewhat valuable to the UFC whenever they do a show in Brazil.

Tim Means is just a dude who’s always willing to throw down. That makes him valuable, too.

Neither man will ever challenge for a belt, but putting them together on a card in Brazil is a “can’t miss” match-up that promises violence. And hey, that’s what we got!

Whatever ground game Moraes hoped to impose on the American, it went out the window once Means started stuffing takedown attempts. Which was fine, because Moraes has wild hooks full of power to rely on when it comes to the stand-up game, and Means loves eating hooks for some reason.

That was the story of Round 1 – other than pulling guard once, Moraes was unable to get the fight to the ground, and Means ate hooks like they were food. Round 2 saw Means make adjustments and nail the Brazilian with more kicks and punches than he ate.

Moraes was very much running out of steam in the third, and even flopped to guard, hoping that Means would join him for some odd reason. Time expired with the duo slugging it out, and since this fight took place in Brazil…

Pic! Marlon Moraes signs contract to fight Jimmie Rivera at UFC on FOX 28 in Orlando

Two of the very best bantamweight fighters in the world are drawing closer to a showdown inside of the UFC’s Octagon, as rising contender Marlon Moraes has signed his portion of a contract to fight Jimmie Rivera at UFC on FOX 28 on Feb. 24 in Orlando, Florida.

Moraes took to social media earlier today (Sat., Jan. 6, 2018) to share a picture of the signed contract and put Rivera on notice. According to Moraes’ post (shown below), he is also willing to fight Rivera on Mar. 3 at UFC 222 if “El Terror” wishes to postpone the inevitable.

Remember, these two nearly locked horns at UFC 219 last month after John Lineker, who was filling in for an injured Dominick Cruz, was forced out of his bout with Rivera due to a bad tooth, but a disagreement about weight got in the way.

As current UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw relishes in his recent knockout victory over Cody Garbrandt and works towards a potential superfight with flyweight king Demetrious Johnson, Moraes and Rivera could be in line for a No. 1 contender’s bout.

That’s unless the promotion finally decides to throw this guy into the title shot mix.

Aljamain Sterling issues statement following scary knockout loss to Marlon Moraes at UFC Fresno

During last night’s (Sat., Dec. 9, 2017) UFC Fight Night 123 event inside Save Mart Arena in Fresno, California, Aljamain Sterling suffered a nasty knockout loss to Marlon Moraes in main card action.

See it again here.

Indeed, “Magic” clipped “Funkmaster” with a nasty knee to the face the stiffened Aljamain, forcing the ref to stop the action. It was a knockout Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White compared to Francis Ngannou’s demolition of Alistair Overeem at UFC 218 last week.

After getting carried out in a stretcher to the hospital for precautionary reasons, Sterling issued a statement last last night via social media.

Knowing Sterling was already out, credit has to be given to Marlon, as he immediately stopped his offensive attack and did not follow up with any unnecessary blows to his fallen foe.

And in victory, “Magic’s” thoughts were all on Sterling.

And while UFC broadcasters didn’t give fight fans an update regarding Sterling’s health status during the broadcast, Dana White did confirm in this post-event interview that Sterling was mobile and doing great.

Submission! Watch Zabit Magomedsharipov finish Sheymon Moraes via anaconda choke at UFC Shanghai

The finishes piled in earlier today (Sat., Nov. 25, 2017) at UFC Fight Night 122 live on Fight Pass from inside Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China, as rising Russian prospect Zabit Magomedsharipov captured his second-straight Octagon finish by submitting Sheymon Moraes via third-round anaconda choke.

Unlike Magomedsharipov’s first UFC appearance (a second-round finish), this fight went beyond the 10-minute mark. During a scramble on the ground, “ZaBeast” caught Moraes sleeping and wrapped his arms around his neck. From there, the 26-year-old Russian proceeded to squeeze and twist until Moraes tapped and forced the referee to step in.

Check out the suffocating submission finish above courtesy of UFC.

With this performance, Magomedsharipov improves his professional record to 14-1. His late-fight efforts also earned him an extra $ 50,000. If “ZaBeast” can continue to turn in submission finishes like he has in his first two Octagon outings, he may quickly climb the 145-pound ladder in 2018.
