Conor McGregor Arrested in Miami

Everyone’s favorite Irish UFC star and unrepentant law-breaker Conor McGregor is in hot water yet again.

This time, it’s in Miami, FL. The reason? Some jerk was taking pics of McGregor, and McGregor apparently didn’t like that so he grabbed the dude’s phone and smashed it. Which… is considered “Strong Arm Robbery” and “Criminal Mischief” in Miami Beach.

Oh well. Honestly, this isn’t as egregious as smashing a bus with a handtruck. I mean, it’s bad, but not that bad.

What may be bad, though, is Conor’s current suspension by the commission in Nevada. Is this going to put him in even more hot water with them?

McGregor Releases Statement Following Miami Arrest

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, was arrested on Monday and charged with strong-armed robbery, a second-degree felony, and criminal mischief, a third-degree felony, after an early-morning confrontation that ended with a destruction of a cell phone valued at $ 1,000.

Our full report here.

McGregor allegedly blew his stack when mixed martial arts (MMA) fan, Ahmed Abdirzak, attempted to take a picture of “Notorious” outside Fountainebleu Hotel in Miami Beach. The power-punching Irishman was released from Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center later in the day after posting $ 12,500 bond and it didn’t take long for his official statement.

“Patience in this world is a virtue I continue to work on,” McGregor wrote on Instagram. “I love my fans dearly. Thank you all.”

This is McGregor’s second arrest in less than a year, thanks to a Brooklyn bus attack that shook up the UFC 223 pay-per-view (PPV) fight card (watch it). While he recently satisfied the terms of his plea deal, “Notorious” was also hit with a civil suit over damage caused to fellow fighter, Michael Chiesa.

In addition, McGregor was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 last October, a high-profile defeat that cost him the 155-pound strap and several months on the bench, thanks to a post-fight brawl (video) that included SBG Ireland teammate and longtime jiu-jitsu coach, Dillon Danis.

Don’t worry, he’s still filthy rich, but that’s about as shitty a year as you can get.

Combate Americas to partner with El Clasico Miami for event in July

If you’re traveling this summer to attend El Clasico Miami — Real Madrid vs. FC Barcelona — there will be some MMA action for you to watch, as well.

Combate Americas will hold an event two days before the exhibition soccer match on July 27 at Mana Wynwood Convention Center in Miami, and the headliner will play on the Barcelona-Madrid rivalry, one of the most intense in all of sports, MMA Fighting has learned.

Abner Lloveras (20-9-1), of Barcelona, will meet Javier Fuentes (9-4), of Madrid, in the main event of “Combate Clasico.” The event will air live in the United States on Azteca America, and the following night, July 28, on TV Azteca in Mexico.

Combate Americas is partnering with the promoters of the exhibition soccer match, Relevent Sports, to bring the event to Miami as part of a weekend’s worth of attractions in Miami, which also includes Juventus F.C. vs. Paris Saint-Germain F.C., as well as concerts and parties.

This particular Madrid-Barcelona match is notable because it will mark the first time the two historic clubs meet in North America and the first time since 1982 that they play each other outside of Spain. The match will take place July 29 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.

The “Combate Clasico” card will feature 10 fights, which will be announced in the coming weeks. Former UFC fighter and Diaz brothers protégé Chris Avila is expected to compete on the card, as well.
