Midnight Mania! Rogan Knows Why We Love Nate Diaz

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA, each and every night of the week!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Neither of the Diaz brothers have fought in years. Nate Diaz last stepped into the Octagon in a rematch with Conor McGregor at UFC 202. The younger Diaz earned millions of dollars over the course of two fights with the Irisman for the first time in his career, and promptly absconded from the sport for a variety of reasons, including the unwillingness of the UFC to meet his pay demands, Conor McGregor’s absence that kept Diaz from fighting the one draw big enough to give him that payday, and a variety of legal troubles that kept him on the sidelines. He nearly returned in 2018 opposite Dustin Poirier, but Poirier had to withdraw from a fight for the first time in his career, and the disgruntled Diaz withdrew again. Nick Diaz was supposed to fight Jorge Masvidal, but the bout fell through amidst increasingly erratic behavior from the elder Diaz.

Yet, despite the fact that we haven’t seen either brother inside the Octagon for well over two years, their popularity endures. Joe Rogan had some ideas on the lasting appeal of the famous duo, and believes the UFC underestimates their fanbase. Via BJPenn.com:

“Cause he doesn’t give a f**k,” Rogan said. “He legitimately doesn’t give a f**k. He smokes weed all the time. People love it. They love the fact that those guys are like that.

He went on to remind us that McGregor opposite Diaz at UFC 202 did bigger numbers than McGregor fighting Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title a few months later, establishing that Diaz has an appeal all his own, apart from Conor McGregor.

One of the reasons why Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor was so big is because people love Nate Diaz too,” Rogan explained. “It’s not just Conor McGregor. No disrespect to Eddie Alvarez, but when Conor McGregor fought Eddie Alvarez, the vast majority of the eyes were on Conor McGregor. When Conor McGregor fights Nate Diaz, you’re looking at a lot of people who love Nate Diaz.

I think those guys are superstars, I think the UFC doesn’t know.”

Will 2019 feature the return of Nate Diaz? The potential for a trilogy closer with McGregor lingers, but is their rivalry wearing out its shelf life? Rogan is right that the UFC seems unwilling or unable to promote Nate Diaz as an independent draw, perhaps because of exactly the ‘don’t give a f***’ attitude that makes him so appealing as a character to fans.

Great fight

This is why a 165-lb. division is the only one that makes sense to add.

Amazing moment.

Rose Namajunas vs. Jessica Andrade is likely the co-main event for UFC 237; the most sense would be to have Amanda Nunes defend against Cyborg, Ketlen Vieira, or the winner of Holm-Ladd

This fight was truly insane.

Mark Hunt Blames UFC, USADA For Ruining His Love Of Fighting

It’s no secret what Mark Hunt thinks of the Ultimate Fighting Championship; in particular, the promotion’s relationship with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). Hunt has been vocal in the past about the special treatment certain fighters in the UFC get after being caught taking performance enhancing drugs in the sport.

Dana White Believes Demetrious Johnson Didn’t Get “The Love And The Respect” he Deserved From Fans…

Many folks have argued that Demetrious Johnson never received the fanfare he should have, during his historic run with the UFC, and Dana White has echoed that sentiment.

As you’ve almost certainly heard by now, recently it was confirmed that Johnson’s headed to ONE Championship, in exchange for undefeated welterweight, Ben Askren. The move comes not long after Johnson’s historic reign as flyweight champ was ended by Henry Cejudo, this past August.

Well, recently TMZ caught up with White, and when asked about Johnson’s departure, the UFC President said this (quote via MMA Fighting):

“If you look at it, the kid broke the record for the most title defenses (11),” White said. “I feel like he never really got the love and the respect that he deserved from the fans. I don’t know if he was always thrilled being here. So hopefully he’s a lot happier where he’s headed now. His longtime trainer and coach [Matt Hume] is an executive over there, so maybe he’ll be happier over there.”

UFC 224 Primer: Brazil Is All About Love

Sure, whenever the UFC travels to Brazil and a non-Brazilian fights a Brazilian in the Octagon, the crowd chants, “You’re going to die!” in Portuguese. And yeah, Colby Covington can’t fight down there because, well, he’d get torn to pieces by an angry mob. But you know what? There’s a lot of love in Brazil, too.

Take, for instance, the Embedded episodes below.

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will (in theory) be taking on Kelvin Gastelum in the co-main event of UFC 224 on Saturday night. But what happens when he runs into Gastelum’s coach in the days leading up to the fight? Love. Nothing but love.

Then there’s the main event between bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes and challenger Raquel Pennington.

Nunes and girlfriend Nina Ansaroff are actually pals with Pennington and girlfriend Tecia Torres – guess how much love they show each other when they cross paths? (Hint: there’s lots of love.)

Unlike cards that had Conor McGregor or Ronda Rousey at the helm, and the trash-talk and hate was copious, UFC 224 in Brazil has so much respect and affection going on that it’s hard to imagine there will be fights on Saturday night.

Rousey Has Nothing But Love For McGregor

McGregor has been a vocal supporter of Rousey heading into WrestleMania 34, something the female UFC pioneer appreciates.

Ronda Rousey may be completely sick of almost everything involving mixed martial arts, but she’s still got big love for lightweight champion Conor McGregor. During her eyebrow raising media blitz with ESPN last week, McGregor was pretty much the only UFC related topic that didn’t result in her flashing a big old scowl.

“I love Conor, he’s awesome!” she gushed during a 30 minute video interview with Brett Okamoto. “He’s always been great to me. He has my utmost respect as an athlete and as a man. I just appreciate him always being so respectful back to me. I just wish nothing but the best things for him.”

“He took so much weight off of my shoulders, as well. I owe a lot to Conor.”

McGregor is well known for his willingness to torch anyone that might gain him some attention, but Ronda Rousey never ended up on that list. The closest he ever came to s**t talking her was making a threesome joke – that he then apologized for!

The double champ apologizes to nobody … except Ronda Rousey.

After her big loss to Holly Holm, McGregor went out of his way to support Rousey, sending her inspirational messages through the media. So he’s gold as far as Ronda is concerned.

“Anything that he wants to do in life, I hope everything works out for him,” she said. “If he doesn’t want to fight ever again, if he wants to hang out at home with his family. Anything he wants to do. If he wants to be come a master blueberry grower, I hope he has the greatest blueberries to ever happen. I love Conor.”

Rousey is set to make her full match debut at WrestleMania 34 on April 8th in New Orleans against Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. Backing her up will be fellow Olympic athlete Kurt Angle … and who knows, maybe Conor McGregor as well?

Conor McGregor and Max Holloway Show Frankie Edgar Some Love

Frankie Edgar didn’t have to take his UFC 222 fight against Brian Ortega.

Edgar was supposed to face featherweight champ Max Holloway for the belt. But when Holloway dropped out with an injury, young buck Ortega offered up his services. Despite having a well-earned title shot waiting for him, Edgar took the Ortega fight.

And he got knocked out.

Since then, both Holloway and former featherweight (and current lightweight) champ Conor McGregor have chimed in to show Edgar some love. Edgar is, after all, a no-nonsense fighter who’s given everything he has in every fight – a trait that has made him a fighter’s fighter.

How’s that for respect from your peers?

Cody Garbrandt vs TJ Dillashaw at UFC 217 on Nov. 4, according to ‘No Love’

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) may have just added a second title fight to its upcoming UFC 217 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for Nov. 4, 2017 inside Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Joining this welterweight scrap.

According to Cody Garbrandt, his pending bantamweight championship showdown against former 135-pound kingpin TJ Dillashaw has been rebooked for “The City Never That Never Sleeps.”

The promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Garbrandt and Dillashaw were expected to settle their longstanding differences last month at the UFC 213 extravaganza in Las Vegas, Nevada, putting an end to a rivalry that started at Team Alpha Male and continued with The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 23, but “No Love” was suffering from back issues and was forced to delay his first title defense.

Dillashaw offered to fight Demetrious Johnson in the interim, but “Mighty Mouse” was not hearing any of that noise. We still have a long way to go before November, but this fight is long overdue.

Midnight Mania! Watch Yoel Romero do insane back flip into split; “No Love” a married man

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Yoel Romero may be a quasi-cheater and, alongside Justine Kish, guilty of pooping inside the Octagon, but he’s also one of the most terrifyingly athletic men in the Octagon, and three nights away from potentially winning UFC gold (though Robert “Bobby Knuckles” Whittaker may have something to say about that)

The suspicion surrounding Romero, especially after his six-month ban from what he successfully claimed was a tainted supplement, continue to swirl. However, he has been tested 22 times by USADA.

I’ll admit, I do find Yoel Romero reactions pretty hilarious.

Michael Bisping interviewing Robert Whittaker is kind of awkward already, but Bisping, because he is Bisping, doesn’t exactly help things.

Justin Gaethje’s story told in an exceptionally well-done video. He says the brand he is building is violence.

I thought Dana White said the date conflict with Ice Cube and Mayweather-McGregor was fixed, or just about fixed- but not yet, it would seem.

Cris Cyborg won’t lay off Megan Anderson, and says she is even more confident now that she has seen Anderson’s sparring footage.
