Highlights! Lomachenko Scores Face-Plant KO In Dominant Title Defense

As boxing’s pound-for-pound best, reigning WBA (Super) and WBO lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (13-1, 10 KO) needed to dominate last night (Fri., April 12, 2019) live on ESPN+ from inside Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Luckily for the champ, he was able to put a stop to English veteran Anthony Crolla (34-7-3, 13 KO) via fourth-round knockout.

In typical “Matrix” fashion, Lomachenko took his time in the opening rounds to gauge Crolla’s movements with feints and pressure. Once he downloaded enough information Lomachenko piled on vicious combinations in Round 3 that put Crolla against the ropes and forced a referee break for a technical knockdown.

In Round 4, Lomechenko continue to pile on the offense. A few combinations and a body shot backed Crolla towards the corner. Lomachenko then landed a left hand followed by a brutal right hook on the side of the head that shut Crolla off and sent the Englishman into a faceplant on the canvas.

Check out the memorable fourth-round finish below along with some more action:

With this win, Lomachenko proves yet again that he’s the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world. The 31-year-old lightweight finally looked healthy after shoulder surgery last year and it showed in his performance against Crolla. “Matrix” is simply dominating the competition at every turn so it may be time to pit Lomachenko against WBC and IBF lightweight champion Mikey Garcia.

Midnight Mania! Boxing wizard Vasyl Lomachenko calls out Conor McGregor- for UFC fight

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania! Tonight we’ve got Vasyl Lomachenko teasing a UFC bout, possibly against Conor McGregor, Chris Weidman showing his sexy side, Kelvin Gastelum still hunting for that fight against Anderson Silva, knockouts, free fights, and much more.

Insomnia

Vasyl Lomachenko is atop many pound-for-pound lists in boxing. The Ukranian is a world champion at super featherweight, which is 130 pounds in boxing. A multiple-time Olympic gold medalist in boxing, he recently called out Irish superstar Conor McGregor. Not for a boxing match, which has been McGregor’s focus of late. Instead, Lomachenko mentioned a background in wrestling, judo, and the Russian grappling art of sambo, and asked Conor McGregor if he should try his luck in the UFC.

With McGregor currently the biggest active draw in combat sports, it makes sense for Lomachenko to call him out. Unlike Mayweather, however- currently the Irishman’s target- Lomachenko is willing to step across the rulesets and give McGregor what he said he wants- a fight under mixed martial arts (MMA) rules.

Perhaps the inspiration for the idea came from Lomachenko’s training session with former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw. He spent four rounds sparring with Dillashaw under boxing rules. Dillashaw’s take? “He kicked my ass.”

Boxing stars have made crossovers into MMA before. Holly Holm was the most spectacular of them all, knocking out Ronda Rousey to win a world title. McGregor recently made an Instagram post that stated boxers would get “dismantled and killed” in a real fight. It appears Lomachenko is willing to take Conor up on that assertion.

Bobs and Weaves

Chris Weidman wants Paige VanZant to know she’s not alone.

Kelvin Gastelum still wants Anderson Silva, but Brazil is now too close for comfort. He wants on a New York card in the summer. Last time he was in New York for a fight, he didn’t make it to the scales.

Nate Diaz doesn’t need the UFC

Glover Texeira is one tough dude.

Rory McDonald is one crazy man.

Dustin Poirier violence incoming! I can’t wait for his fight with Eddie Alvarez.

I get the feeling Forrest Griffin drinks a lot.

Midnight Mania! BJ Penn returns to fight Dennis Siver, Dillashaw spars with Lomachenko

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight …

Welcome to Midnight Mania! Tonight, we’ve got mixed martial arts (MMA) legend B.J. Penn giving it another try against Dennis Siver, T.J. Dillashaw sparring with Vasyl Lomachenko, Luke Rockhold saying he will move all the way to Heavyweight to fight Fabricio Werdum, sumo, knockouts, podcasts, and much more!

Insomnia

Baby Jay Penn is not done yet. The announcement came today via “UFC Tonight” that Penn would fight Siver at a UFC Fight Night in Oklahoma City, Okla., on June 25, 2017. Also on the card, former Welterweight champion Johnny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks will take on “The Barbarian,” Tim Boetsch, in a Middleweight showdown and Felice Herrig will battle Justine Kish at Strawweight.

Despite losing his last four fights in a winless streak that extends back to 2011, Penn remains a notable name. He is, after all, one of this sport’s all-time greats. His most recent loss came at the punches and kicks of the surging Yair Rodriguez. His coach was adamant then that Penn should have faced an easier comeback fight. Siver represents a level of competition that he can potentially win against, a welcome change for Penn, after facing nothing but killers for the past decade. Siver hasn’t fought since 2015, a decision loss to Tatsui Kawajiri. If he loses, perhaps Penn will finally retire (yet again).

Bobs and Weaves

T.J. Dillashaw is sparring with pound-for-pound boxing great Vasyl Lomachenko? I want more than this short clip, please. That will get him ready for Cody Garbrandt if anything will.

In case you haven’t seen Lomachenko work:

Speaking of Lomachenko:

Check out Jose Aldo hitting the bag in preparation for his Featherweight title bout with Max Holloway at UFC 212 in Brazil.

Sage Northcutt doing the most Texan pastime imaginable. Why does he still have a protein shaker in his other hand though?

Joanna Jedrzejczyk is having her own fun in the sun!

I would watch this. This is the weirdest fight proposed in a long time that I would be completely into. Luke Rockhold and Fabricio Werdum have beef going quite a ways back.

Slips, Rips and KO Clips

Bas Rutten in Pancrase was a force of nature:

Kevin Randleman was another force of nature. What an athlete.

More sumo for your viewing pleasure.

That’s one way to make an entrance!

And this is another:

These knockouts are visceral!
