Invicta FC 29 Results: Sarah Kaufman Wins a Belt, Julia Avila Gets a Nasty Injury

Invicta FC 29 was Friday night, and the all-female MMA promotion brought us the usual gleeful violence and technique – as well as a pretty nasty injury.

In the main event, UFC vet Sarah Kaufman just about ate opponent Katharina Lehner for dinner.

Kaufman tore her up on the feet, worked her over on the ground, and finally, in Round 3, tapped her out with a choke. Kaufman earned an Invicta bantamweight belt for her efforts.

Meanwhile, UFC vet Pearl Gonazalez got a submission win over Barbara Acioly earlier in the night, while relative unknowns Julia Avila and Marciea Allen fought for just under a minute for Avila suffered a compound fracture in her finger while parrying a kick. Yikes.

Dana White Says New York Gets First Dibs on Punishing Conor McGregor

It seems like just yesterday that Irish hooligan Conor McGregor was going nuts in Brookyln, smashing the windows of a van, and exiting the 78th Precinct as a guest of the New York City Police Department. Ah, we were so innocent then…

But alas, McGregor has long since been out on bail, and though he’s got a court date set, the smart money is on the UFC superstar never seeing the inside of a jail cell for his crimes. Which is whatever. It’s Conor – what do you expect?

However, there’s also the matter of the UFC themselves punishing McGregor for his sins. I mean, he did knock three fights off the UFC 223 card. So, are they going to suspend him? Fine him? Make him drink Xyience?

According the UFC boss Dana White, it’s all about the wait-and-see, as in, they’re going to wait and see what punishment New York State levies upon McGregor before they do anything.

Take it away, TMZ!

UFC 223 Primer: Embedded, Episode 1 – Khabib Gets the Bad News

The biggest story going into UFC 223 fight week isn’t that we’ll get to see if Rose Namajunas’ shocking knockout victory over former strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk was a fluke.

Nor is it whether or not the match-up between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov will see Conor McGregor officially stripped of his undisputed lightweight belt, with the title going to the victor.

Nope. It’s all about Ferguson getting injured, and featherweight champ Max Holloway stepping in ON SIX DAYS NOTICE to face Nurmagomedov for McGregor’s belt.

This is what greatness is all about, folks. Holloway is stepping up for the sake of greatness, and if he somehow pulls off the win, you can bet he’s earned that huge money fight against the superstar Irishman.

Here’s the first episode of Embedded for the week, and of course the most notable thing is Nurmagomedov getting the news that Ferguson is out.

Invicta FC 28 Results: UFC Vet Milana Dudieva Finally Gets a Win

Christina Marks washed out of TUF 26, then lost at the TUF 26 Finale. Milana Dudieva went 1-1 in the Octagon, then came down to Invicta FC and lost two in a row.

Tonight, they fight, and in theory one of them is going to get the “W” neither has found in so long.

Her background may be judo, but Dudieva seems relatively comfortable standing with Marks – which is to say, the two dance around throwing occasional punches. Marks adds kicks into the mix, but if there’s any impact on the fight, it’s negligible.

The dance continues into the second, and thankfully one of Dudieva’s overhand’s sneaks through and drops Marks to the canvas. Marks is stunned, and the Russian finishes her off with more punches.

Results: Milana Dudieva def. Christina Marks via TKO (Punches) at 3:57, R2

Video! Sage Northcutt’s Wild Bear Encounter Gets Animated Makeover

Remember when UFC youngster Sage Northcutt was nearly eaten by wild bears in the California mountains?

Well, that almost happened, and now Northcutt’s harrowing tale is gaining more steam after receiving a rather hilarious animated makeover. Check out that video above courtesy of @caseharts, who has a knack for these things.

In case you missed Northcutt’s initial storytelling time on Submission Radio, or are unable to view the animated short above for whatever reason, here is the detailed incident from “Super” himself:

“One of the first times that I was up in Sacramento, California, I was up in the mountains – and this is almost towards the Lake Tahoe area – I’m up in the mountains, I went running and climbed this waterfall by myself. I’m in the middle of nowhere, I climbed about two miles past the waterfall, and all of a sudden everything gets real quiet. Well, I didn’t know at the time, but there’s black bears up there. So I heard something grunting. All I had was a little tiny knife on me just for like protection, just because I need it, but it couldn’t do anything to a black bear, I don’t think. So, what I did was I hid behind the water that was coming out of the waterfall, and it was absolutely freezing. So, I hid for about five minutes. I didn’t move. And when I heard the grunting stop I just took off sprinting. I literally sprinted two miles as fast as I could, hiked down the waterfall and made it back to my truck. So that was a crazy story because I felt like I was gonna get eaten. It was pretty crazy because at first I was like, maybe it’s a cougar, maybe it’s something… I didn’t know what it was. And I’m over behind the waterfall where the water’s coming out, and I take my phone out and I’m trying to google if there’s bears in California. And then I remembered, like, I saw a statue of a bear. It was a gold bear or a silver bear in Sacramento like an hour and a half away. So I’m like OK, like, there’s gotta be bears. So then I just waited, I was completely quiet and didn’t move. And then when it stopped, I was, my heart was definitely racing cause I took off so fast. My adrenalin was going so much I felt like I was floating on my feet, like, flying.”

Pretty crazy stuff, huh?

While Northcutt’s take on the entire ordeal and the animated remake tend to strike the funny bone, getting attacked by a bear in the wild is no joking matter. Ever see The Revenant? That shit could have happened to “Super” in the blink of an eye.

Luckily the mixed martial arts (MMA) prodigy had his running shoes on that day.
