Midnight Mania! George Foreman predicts Mayweather vs McGregor could have been ‘Fight of the Year’

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight …

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

George Foreman has a take on the McGregor-Mayweather bout, and if you haven’t been paying attention, you may be surprised at his opinion. Transcript via MMAFighting.com:

“Not only did he surprise Floyd Mayweather, he surprised me and a whole host of experts,” he said.

“Because McGregor hit Mayweather often, his defense didn’t even work against Conor. He had to come out and fight like an old boxing slugger, like George Foreman or something.”

His reference to himself in the interview is hilarious, as was his repeated reference to the Irishman as “McConor”. He saw the borderline blow- that Mayweather sold as a low blow- in the ninth round as the referee saving Mayweather when he was genuinely hurt.

“The referee protected Mayweather in one of the last rounds. McConor hurt him,” recalled Foreman.

“He had him hurt, and was going for the finish, and the referee stepped in for no reason at all and stopped it. It was a vicious body punch. Conor had him with a good body shot and the referee saved him, but that’s typical of a boxing match.”

However, I don’t think I would go this far. It may have been the most exciting Mayweather fight in a long time, but was it this good? I don’t think so. But Foreman, the former heavyweight champion of the world, and one of the very few boxers to go broke, return, and manage his money the second time around, is certainly entitled to his opinion.

“Well, for the first time, I think all of the media should apologize for all the negative things they were saying about the fight,” Foreman said. “It’s probably…it’s going to be hard to top it. It could have been the fight of the year.”

Insomnia

Nate Diaz doesn’t think McGregor learned anything.

McGregor was tired, but Nate did stop his usual guillotine escape brilliantly.

I do like this T-shirt design, though.

Mike Jackson continues to call out C.M. Punk in diverse and funny ways, but I doubt he’s getting that fight …

Hey, @cmpunk…

That’s because Punk’s second UFC fight (why? $ $ $ , that’s why) seems already to have been decided. It’s probably not this one.

Truth. That IS a McGregor coat … and a McGregor beard, for that matter.

Weird, but just strange enough to enjoy.

I, too, love Joanna Jedrzejczyk, but I’ve never described her this poetically:

I love body shots …

What an uppercut!

Not all uppercuts are created equal …
