The Weekly Grind: Conor McGregor shows off UFC belts, George St-Pierre knocks out wild front flips

The life of a professional fighter isn’t all glitz and glamour.

As if getting punched, kicked, kneed, choked and twisted into a pretzel on a regular basis isn’t enough, fighters attract a general wackiness that makes their lives, well…interesting.

To commemorate these day-to-day hardships, slip-ups, pranks, and more, we bring you, “The Weekly Grind.”

Jon Jones flips Daniel Cormier the bird while leaving the cage at UFC 197

Jon Jones wasn’t saying Daniel Cormier was No. 1.

The new UFC interim light heavyweight champion had a message for the current champion Saturday night after dominated Ovince Saint Preux in a unanimous decision victory at UFC 197 in Las Vegas. As he left the Octagon, Jones flipped Cormier the bird. Cormier was broadcasting the fight as an analyst alongside Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan.

Jones was supposed to face Cormier in this fight, but “DC” pulled out three weeks ago due to a leg injury. Cormier said on the broadcast that it killed him to withdraw, because Jones did look a bit rusty against OSP. Cormier said on the FOX Sports 1 post-fight show thought he would have beaten Jones if they fought tonight.

Even though he was coming off a 15-month layoff, Jones still put on a complete performance against Saint Preux, who came in on short notice. “Bones” never gave OSP any openings and clearly won every single round, coming close to a finish in the fourth, which one judge ruled a 10-8.

Jones defeated Cormier at UFC 182 in January 2015 and this was Jones’ first fight back since then. He was arrested in April 2015 on a felony hit-and-run charge and subsequently stripped of the title and suspended by the UFC. With the legal trouble mostly in the rear-view mirror, this was Jones’ comeback fight.

And his next fight will surely come against Cormier, either at UFC 200 in July or later. The rivalry will be renewed. Jones won’t need any birds — just his fists.
