Uriah Hall vs. Vitor Belfort removed from UFC St. Louis after ‘Prime Time’ failed to weigh in

With just more than 24 hours to go, UFC Fight Night 124 has lost its co-main event, as middleweight Uriah Hall failed to step on the scales earlier today (Sat., Jan. 13, 2018) for official weigh ins (full results here).

UFC broadcaster Brendan Fitzgerald announced that Hall could not step on the scale at the end of the weigh-in window, but offered no reason for the disappearance. As a result of Hall’s inability to make weight, his anticipated showdown with former UFC champion Vitor Belfort has been scrapped from the card.

According to a recent report by MMAjunkie’s John Morgan, Hall was apparently one pound away from the 186-pound threshold before medical issues forced him to stop cutting weight.

This is an unfortunate turn of events not only for Hall, who was on the cusp of his most high-profile Octagon appearance to date, but also Belfort, who was planning on walking away from mixed martial arts (MMA) after this weekend in St. Louis.

Hall revealed earlier this week in an interview with MMAjunkie that his “body shut down” last month, so maybe that had something to do with his weight-cut struggles. For what it’s worth, “Prime Time” has never failed to successfully make weight in his UFC career.

As a result of the co-main event fallout, Michael Johnson’s featherweight debut opposite Darren Elkins will now be moved to the main card.

Twitter reacts to Jon Jones’ failed UFC 214 drug test – ‘I hope this is some insane mistake’

The mixed martial arts (MMA) world was flipped upside-down last night (Tues., Aug, 22, 2017) when news broke that Jon Jones failed drug test administered by United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) one day before his fight against Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 on July 29, 2017, in Anaheim, California.

Naturally, many of the sport’s top stars and personalities took to Twitter to express their feel goods following the unexpected news:

According to Malki Kawa — long-time manager to Jon Jones — “Bones” was “crushed” upon hearing the news and the team is looking into the possibility of a tainted supplement being the culprit.

Jones now faces up to a four-year suspension since it’s his second infraction in just over a year’s time. His knockout win over Cormier at UFC 214 was his first bout after serving a one-year suspension for his failed drug test, which ultimately scrapped his scheduled fight vs. “DC” at UFC 200.

Jones has long proclaimed he has stayed far way from performance enhancing drugs (PEDs), while Cormier has always accused his bitter rival of taking steroids throughout his career. And after this latest infraction, it’s kind of hard to side with “Bones.”

Crushed! Manager issues statement on Jon Jones’ failed UFC 214 drug test

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones was notified earlier today by United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) that he had failed a drug test administered prior to his win over Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 on July 29, 2017 in Anaheim, California.

Now, the “Bones” camp has released an official statement regarding the blockbuster new to MMA Fighting:

We are all at a complete loss for words right now. Jon, his trainers, his nutritionists and his entire camp have worked tirelessly and meticulously the past 12 months to avoid this exact situation. We are having the samples tested again to determine the validity or source of contamination. Jon is crushed by this news and we are doing whatever we can as a team, to support him.

According to this report, Jon tested positive for the steroid turinabol.

The new is devastating in more ways than one, as the win was Jon’s first after serving a one-year suspension for failing a drug test prior to his scheduled showdown against “DC” in July of 2016 at UFC 200.

Should USADA decide to lay the hammer down, Jones could be out of action for two years, if not longer, seeing as how it is his second such infraction. It’s a huge black eye for Jon’s legacy, as he has long been considered the best fighter to ever grace the Octagon, though he could never seem to get out of his own way.
