Dustin Poirier Dismisses Talk of ‘GSP’ facing winner of Nurmagomedov-McGregor: ‘It’s Not Happening’

Nate Diaz Returns to Face Dustin Poirier at UFC 230

Gird your loins and dust off your favorite vape pen, because Nate Diaz – our favorite trash-talking, Conor McGregor-beating Stockton badboy – is coming back.

He’ll be taking on Dustin Poirier in the co-main event of UFC 230. Since we know Diaz is capable of hyping a fight and generating monster interest, the UFC is essentially handing Poirier an opportunity on a silver platter – it’ll be up to Poirier to make the most of it.

As for who will win and who will lose… who cares! Diaz is back!

Here’s the LA Times:

Nate Diaz will return to the UFC octagon after more than a two-year absence Nov. 3 at Madison Square Garden for an expected firefight of a stand-up bout against destructive puncher Dustin Poirier, the Los Angeles Times learned Thursday.

The lightweight bout will serve as the co-main event at UFC 230.

Stockton’s Diaz (20-11) has participated in the main event of two of the most lucrative UFC pay-per-view cards in history, first by taking a March 2016 fight against Conor McGregor on less than two weeks’ notice to submit him in the second round.

Then, after Diaz and his fighter brother, Nick, engaged McGregor in a bottle-and-can throwing exchange during a pre-fight news conference, he lost to McGregor by decision in one of the most thrilling bouts in the organization’s history.

UFC on FOX 30 Results: Dustin Poirier Stops Eddie Alvarez in Ultra-Violent But Muddled Battle

When last they fought, former champ Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier hurt each other, wobbled each other, and then Alvarez inadvertently kneed Poirier in the dome while he was down and the bout was rendered a “no contest”.

Well, in the main event of tonight’s UFC on FOX 30, these guys ran it back and settled things once and for all. And boy was it violent.

They traded kicks, and Alvarez made cursory attempts at takedowns, but the first round was mostly about them chipping away at each other with punches – Poirier’s fists came through openings to bang Alvarez in the head, Alvarez’s fists coming as quick counters to the head and body.

However, things got kicked up a notch in the second. When Alvarez ducked his head and entered for a takedown, Poirier latched on with a guillotine choke attempt, and it took some work for the former champ to escape. Another guillotine attempt had Alvarez escaping and stepping into mount, and with Poirier stuck against the fence in sitting position, Alvarez dropped an elbow straight down on his shoulder. Referee Marc Goddard didn’t like that 12-6 elbow (because it’s an illegal technique), so he stood them up and restarted them standing…

…And Poirier simply unloaded with everything, stunning Alvarez with knees and punches. Alvarez covered up and tried to fire back, but he was getting picked apart, and when he fell, Goddard jumped in.

Results: Dustin Poirier def. Eddie Alvarez via TKO (Punches) at 4:05, R2
