Kickboxing stud Israel Adesanya has had a good 2018. Three trips to the Octagon has resulted in three wins, and his foray into the UFC 230 cage yielded yet another “W”. This time the victim was Derek Brunson – a step up in competition.
Brunson wisely wanted to get this one to the mat, and time and again shot for takedowns or got the bodylock only to have Adesanya stuff them and wiggle free.

Why was Brunson so keen on turning this into a grappling match? Because…

…Once Adesanya had space, he stunned Brunson with a knee, then with a flying knee, and picked him apart until Brunson was on the verge of being murdered.
It’s time to give Adesanya another step up in competition.

Daniel Cormier is a national treasure. A truly likable and charismatic champion, Cormier has finally put Jon Jones behind him by winning heavyweight gold. Now, though, he has in front of him a potential trap fight: Derrick “the Black Beast” Lewis, who knows he isn’t supposed to win but also knows he can knock anyone out at any given time.
Lewis started his humorous feud with Cormier over Popeyes chicken, long before this last-minute bout was cobbled together to save UFC 230. Lewis said he was defending Popeyes honor after DC made a funny video dancing with Popeyes chicken, and that has netted him a sponsorship with the restaurant chain, including free meals for life at a local Cypress franchise. Cormier was jealous Lewis beat him to the punch on that deal.
It sucks. It really sucks that he got it done. I don’t know what happened. My managers need to get on their shit.
I wanted money. That might have been the problem. He got free chicken for life- that’s pretty impressive.
He does have a plan for revenge though: Carl’s Junior, who love him.
Since Popeyes wants to stick it to me, I’m going to go and do a signing and give away free burgers at Carl’s Junior, that’s what I’m going to do.
Whoever runs Carl’s Junior’s Twitter feed is on board, changing their Twitter name to include “Daniel Cormier fan account” and officially picking him.
Well why wouldn’t that make him content https://t.co/nfal2gxEGS

In fact, when they saw this interview they wanted to get Cormier on board before the fight

Israel Adesanya often finds himself compared to Jon Jones, despite being the antithesis of Jones’ style and skillset. He is, however, one thing Jones is not: undefeated.

It is a little strange seeing ‘Kru Bob’, as he is known in the Houston scene, in the headlines.

Derrick Lewis didn’t even swallow the Popeyes chicken in his recent Instagram video, because he’s eating healthy for this one!
There is a definite size disparity- but will it matter?

Ben Askren has been killing it with the welterweight callouts. He’s got plenty of options now.
It is absolutely insane to me how big NBA athletes are.

Daniel Cormier is truly the Daddest man on the planet.
Not sure if anyone spoke to Daniel Cormier (@dc_mma) about this at media day, but his manager and coach Bob Cook told me he found time to take his kids trick-or-treating in NY last night. After 13 hours of media earlier in the week, and a title fight coming up Saturday.

Heavy Hands for UFC 230:
The announcement of the main event heavyweight title fight next month at UFC 230 in New York between Daniel Cormier and Derrick Lewis definitely surprised a few fans, given the short notice.
Cormier had announced previously that he would retire from MMA for good by March 2019 and a fight with World Wrestling Entertainment super star Brock Lesnar had been pencilled in for “early 2019.”

Just hours after Conor McGregor took part in his first mixed martial arts (MMA)-related press conference in two years (see it again here), the fiery Irishman inked a contract extension with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). According to UFC president Dana White, “Notorious” will be locked down with the promotion for eight more fights.
“It’s not hard to do a deal with Conor McGregor because we know what he’s worth,” White told ESPN.
Score another one for the bad guy.
While detailed financial terms weren’t revealed, the brash head honcho stated the deal would make Conor the highest-paid fighter in the history of the sport. Whether or not it nets him $ 100 million, remains to be seen.
There were rumblings teasing the possibility of McGregor wrapping up his MMA career following the event, but it seems he isn’t prepared to stop adding to his legacy just yet. Which is good news for seven other potential opponents who will undoubtedly be salivating at their chance to share the Octagon with the biggest money-maker the sport has ever seen.
As history (and projections) have shown, the McGregor business is good business for all parties involved, so perhaps it shouldn’t be that surprising to see McGregor strike it richer in what could very well be the final MMA contract of his career.
Indeed, the king is back and he is ready to put on at least eight more memorable performances and increase other fighter’s bank accounts, in the process.
First up, “Notorious” will attempt to win back the 155-pound strap he was stripped of when he faces Khabib Nurmagomedov at the upcoming UFC 229 pay-per-view (PPV) event on October 6, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
