Daniel Cormier on UFC 230 Fight With Derrick Lewis: ‘The Deal I Got Was So Good’

The announcement of the main event heavyweight title fight next month at UFC 230 in New York between Daniel Cormier and Derrick Lewis definitely surprised a few fans, given the short notice.
Cormier had announced previously that he would retire from MMA for good by March 2019 and a fight with World Wrestling Entertainment super star Brock Lesnar had been pencilled in for “early 2019.”

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier Are At It Again, And Cormier Is Winning

Former champ and part-time snitch Jon Jones has a little bit of history with Daniel Cormier.

Twice Jones has beaten the current light-heavyweight and heavyweight champ. And yet both those times, Jones ended up losing his belt because he can’t keep away from illicit substances.

Now Jones is back from his last drug suspension, and he’s working the social media angles to get under Cormier’s skin. It just might be working, but Jones is getting slapped around a little hard…

Here’s some of the back and forth:

First, Jones fired off some Hater-ade.

@dc_mma You mad, Bro? USADA keeps calling but you’re not going to pick up the phone because the second you hear them say I’m innocent is the instant the illusion you’ve created shatters. Then it’s all real AGAIN and that’s not a step you’re willing to take. Instead you wrap yourself in your fake belt and keep telling yourself the shin that slammed into your face and the performance that buried you once again was enhanced. The fact you can’t beat me kills you and it stops you from picking up that phone. If you answer it then the nightmare becomes reality. Then again, maybe you do pick up, accept the truth that you were defeated by a superior fighter and that gives you peace. Or it goes another way and you get motivated to try a third time and that will save me the hassle of having to dig you up before I bury you. So now that the illusion you’ve built is crumbling and the “violation was not intended nor could it have enhanced the athlete’s performance” you still have to tell yourself something yeah? And while there was “absolutely no intention to use prohibited substances,” it was my intention to kick your ass once again. Mission accomplished. Pick up the phone #letstalkaboutit

Then Cormier responded, and I have to say, he totally eviscerated the dude.

So here we go again Jonny boy. First off, if you did nothing wrong and were “innocent“ then you’d have never been suspended. You’ve had to stand before these people and arbitrators so many times it’s insane. So you slipped again, how many times can one man slip? I’ve been tested 70 times and I haven’t slipped once. How do you explain that? And on top of all the cheating you’ve done around UFC 182, UFC 200 and UFC 214 that’s not even the straw that broke the camel’s back. You are actually a SNITCH! You think you’re the only one that’s been offered this deal? No, you’re just the only scumbag low enough to take it! Which one of your teammates did you tell on to get this joke of a punishment from USADA! I thought there was nothing lower than a cheater but it’s not surprising that you show me a whole new level. You’re a cheater and a SNITCH! Get off my page and go do some coke, or steroids or whatever you losers do in your spare time. #doublechamp

Jones replied, but I don’t know… He’s probably hiding under the cage at Jackson-Winklejohn gym crying right now.

Daniel Cormier Making Those Media Rounds Like a Double Champ

The UFC’s reigning light-heavyweight and heavyweight champ, Daniel Cormier, has got a big-money fight on the horizon.

Sadly, I’m talking about a match-up against Brock Lesnar, who has no relevance to the UFC’s heavyweight division now, but is nonetheless a “name” dude. But whatever, Cormier will undoubtedly be getting a percentage of the pay-per-views, and this bout should pay off whatever student loans he’s got hanging over his head.

Anyway, Cormier has been making the media rounds, getting his face out in front of the camera so people will be more inclined to shell out dough to watch him fight.

Here he is playing nice on some morning talk show.

Daniel Cormier Throws Shade at Brock Lesnar for Scripted WWE Loss

When light-heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier snatched up the heavyweight belt after knocking out Stipe Miocic, the brand-spanking-new two division champ barely had a chance to slobber on the microphone before his postfight speech was interrupted by Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar, you see, used to be a UFC champ back in the day, has been earning a paycheck via pro wrestling escapades in the WWE, and remains the UFC’s “go to” guy for moving some pay-per-view numbers (despite has total lack of real relevance).

When Lesnar stepped into the cage to harass Cormier, it was of course to set up a future match-up between the two.

Well, Lesnar apparently “competed” on some big WWE event this past weekend, and after losing whatever nonsensical belt he held, Cormier blasted him on social media. He blasted him before the match, too, but it was really kinda sweet afterwards.

To me, losing a WWE belt is akin to playing Romeo in the school play: your butt is going to die at the end because it’s in the script, so where’s the suspense?
