Midnight Mania! Rousey to ‘officially’ sign WWE contract on Sunday

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

It’s not really MMA news at this point, but former UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will be doing some ceremonial thing with the WWE this Sunday.

Mostly, the attention on social media has to do with how they got her face to look like this in the photo. That smile doesn’t quite seem… natural.

Also… Derrick Lewis’ crush is real.

Wha… what are you doing here, Conor?

Cerrone had his stats ready after the fight. Soon, he will pass this up… along with a bunch of others

TJ Dillashaw likes this painting of him.

The hashtag alone is worth it. I’m down with OSP.

Derrick Lewis was pretty happy with his wife’s reaction to his sweet knockout.

Why do we choose to have singers attempt our national anthem so we can laugh out loud at them? On second thought, it’s better this way. Life is better when laughing.

This isn’t creepy at all.

I laughed out loud. Come get your woman, Hungary.

Pic! Marlon Moraes signs contract to fight Jimmie Rivera at UFC on FOX 28 in Orlando

Two of the very best bantamweight fighters in the world are drawing closer to a showdown inside of the UFC’s Octagon, as rising contender Marlon Moraes has signed his portion of a contract to fight Jimmie Rivera at UFC on FOX 28 on Feb. 24 in Orlando, Florida.

Moraes took to social media earlier today (Sat., Jan. 6, 2018) to share a picture of the signed contract and put Rivera on notice. According to Moraes’ post (shown below), he is also willing to fight Rivera on Mar. 3 at UFC 222 if “El Terror” wishes to postpone the inevitable.

Remember, these two nearly locked horns at UFC 219 last month after John Lineker, who was filling in for an injured Dominick Cruz, was forced out of his bout with Rivera due to a bad tooth, but a disagreement about weight got in the way.

As current UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw relishes in his recent knockout victory over Cody Garbrandt and works towards a potential superfight with flyweight king Demetrious Johnson, Moraes and Rivera could be in line for a No. 1 contender’s bout.

That’s unless the promotion finally decides to throw this guy into the title shot mix.

Mark Hunt Plans to Leave UFC Upon Completion of Current Contract

Mark Hunt has been at odds with the Ultimate Fighting Championship for more than a year now, so it’s not surprising that his days are numbered with the Las Vegas-based promotion.

Tired of being treated like s—t, Mark Hunt will fight in Japan after finishing UFC contract

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight bruiser, Mark Hunt, is tired of being treated like shit as an independent contractor signed to the world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion.

That’s why “Super Samoan” plans to run out his current UFC contract — in which he has three fights remaining — then dash off to the “Land of the Rising Sun,” where Hunt (13-11, 1 NC) rose to prominence for PRIDE and K-1.

From his conversation with Submission Radio:

“Three fights left, this will be one of them, I got two left and then see you later. That will be the end of my career in the UFC. I have two fights left and that’s it. You probably know the path I’ve had with the UFC, but you know, it’s business. I haven’t done nothing wrong, I just don’t like to be treated like shit – even if I’m an employee or whatever and I speak my mind about it and, you know, I’ll go from there. So like I said, three fights left and I’ll move on. I’m looking at going and fighting global fights for New Zealand, Australia and probably Japan. It depends on what happens. Like I said, I’m still chasing the dream of that world title.”

At 43-years old, the aging slugger doesn’t have much time to get it done.

Hunt has not been on the best of terms with UFC, particularly promotion president Dana White. After filing suit against the organization (for this), the “Super Samoan” was temporarily benched over concerns for his health.

The New Zelander returns to action at UFC 221 in Perth (more on that here).

Stipe Miocic aiming for early 2018 return following positive UFC contract talks

The return of UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is currently in the works, as Miocic and his team are working towards a new contract with the promotion.

According to a recent report by MMA Fighting, those contract negotiations have begun and are already trending in a positive direction. While nothing is set in stone, a successful agreement between both parties could land Miocic back inside of the Octagon early next year.

Miocic, 35, tied the UFC heavyweight record for consecutive title defenses (2) when he knocked out Junior dos Santos at UFC 211 this past May. More impressively, Miocic has finished all five of his recent victories by way of knockout, including wins over top-flight competition like Fabricio Werdum, Mark Hunt, Alistair Overeem and the aforementioned JDS.

Despite his recent success, Miocic was not going to return to the cage without a new UFC contract. After all, both of Miocic’s previous two opponents (dos Santos and Overeem) made more than the champion on fight night. That’s a financial discrepancy Miocic is unwilling to entertain at this time and the reason why he’s requested a new agreement with the promotion heading into 2018.

Upon his return, regardless of who the next No. 1 contender is in the heavyweight division, Miocic will be aiming to break UFC history with his third-straight title defense. That has to be a big enough reason to give the Ohio native what he needs in order to step back inside of the Octagon and continue his knockout surge.

Rampage Jackson signs exclusive multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA

Bellator MMA has put ink to paper to keep one of its biggest names in the fold.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has only lost one of his last six fights, that one coming in a rematch against Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal at Bellator 175 in March, but that didn’t dismay the promotion whatsoever. Four of those five wins came in Bellator, and that’s very much where it would like him to stay.

And a press release confirms that after “extensive” negotiations with Jackson’s manager Tiki Ghosn at Arsenal Sports Agency, Jackson has renewed with Bellator for a multi-fight deal. Jackson himself had this to say about his new contract:

“I am excited for this new beginning and looking forward to an action-packed 2018. I can’t wait to get back in the cage and put on exciting fights for both the ‘Rampage’ and Bellator fans.”

Bellator President Scott Coker was also pleased with the result of their extensive negotiations with the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion:

“With ‘Rampage’ Jackson, you know what you’re going to get every time he steps inside the Bellator cage – an exciting fight and interest from fans all over the world. I knew that keeping ‘Rampage’ with Bellator was integral to our continued growth as a promotion and I’m pleased that we were able to come to an agreement.”

Undoubtedly, viewers and fight fans of Bellator MMA are, too. Jackson’s current record stands at 37-12 with 16 wins by knockout and seven by submission.

Conor McGregor Says That He’s Currently in ‘Contract Negotiations’ for Next UFC Bout

His manager has already said that a showdown with Tony Ferguson is ”inevitable,” and now Conor McGregor himself is hinting that a lightweight championship unification bout is on the horizon.

Featherweight champion Max Holloway is still without a UFC contract

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight champion Max Holloway, at some point over the past four years, forgot how to lose, racking up 11 straight wins, including last June’s finish over Jose Aldo, which netted the promotion’s 145-pound strap.

When will “Blessed” make his first title defense?

That remains to be seen, since the 25-year-old Hawaiian is a king without a castle, as the “Junior” showdown was the last fight on his current UFC contract. As you might expect, being champion with that kind of winning streak demands a pretty penny.

From his conversation with told KHON2.

“I’m just asking for a fair shake. You see a lot of these guys, a lot of these other champions making what they’re making. I’m not trying to take anything away from them, but I feel like I’m one of the more exciting fighters under contract in the UFC. At the end of the day, I’m the king. I’m in my throne, you know? If you want to come see me, come see me.”

Holloway (18-3) is expected to meet with UFC officials over the next few days.

“Blessed” has a legitimate claim to being the most exciting fighter in his (or any) division, grabbing eight violent finishes during that 11-fight streak, which includes technical knockout victories over Aldo and Anthony Pettis.

Time to see what that’s worth to UFC.

Michael Chiesa inks new four-fight contract with UFC

It looks like UFC will hold onto one of its most consistent lightweights on the roster, as veteran Michael Chiesa signed a new four-fight deal earlier this week, per a recent report by MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani.

The mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran had one fight left on his UFC contract before re-signing with the promotion and bypassing a fairly lucrative free agent market.

Chiesa, 29, is coming off a controversial submission loss to current title challenger Kevin Lee back at UFC Fight Night 112. Before that, “Maverick” had racked off three-straight wins since the beginning of 2015, including impressive submission victories over grapplers Beneil Dariush and Jim Miller.

In total, the former Ultimate Fighter winner has compiled a 7-3 record within the UFC’s ultra-talented lightweight division. Chiesa has only lost to Jorge Masvidal, Joe Lauzon, and Lee since making his Octagon debut back in 2012, while continuously showcasing an improved game on the feet and on the ground.

While Chiesa currently has no fight scheduled, UFC should be looking to pit “Maverick” up against a top 15 opponent and give him the chance to redeem his recent loss to “Motown Phenom.”
