Nick Diaz Cleared Of All Domestic Violence Charges

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has the opportunity to bring Nick Diaz back into the welterweight fold, assuming the Stockton slugger was serious when he told the mixed martial arts (MMA) media that his return was imminent.

That’s because the Las Vegas Justice Court dismissed his domestic violence case on Thursday after the District Attorney declined to move forward, according to MMA Fighting, a move that is perhaps unsurprising after it was revealed a grand jury refused to issue an indictment.

“We are grateful that the District Attorney’s office was fair and thoughtful in reviewing this case based on the evidence and making the decision to dismiss this matter particularly in light of the Grand Jury’s decision finding probable cause was lacking,” attorney Ross Goodman said.

Diaz, 35, was corralled back on May 24 after allegedly injuring a female acquaintance (see his mugshot here). He was arrested and initially charged with felony domestic battery, but later released on $ 18,000 bond.

UFC froze his contract and withheld any further action until his legal process was complete, citing the right to due process (read the full statement here). His Octagon return now seems to be a matter of “when,” as opposed to “if.”

Charges Dropped!

I guess someone had a change of heart … or a change of bank balance.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight contender, Volkan Oezdemir, was sent home by Florida’s Broward County courthouse on Monday afternoon July 9, 2018), after the charges in his felony battery case were dropped.

Apparently the victim refused to cooperate, according to MMA Fighting.

With that mess out of the way, Oezedmir can move forward with his Alexander Gustafsson fight at the upcoming UFC 227 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place on Sat., Aug. 4, 2018 in Los Angeles, California.

It’s not for the interim title … yet.

“No Time” was originally paired off against ex-light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua (twice); however, the court rescheduled his case too close to fight night and UFC decided to rebook that bout in case Oezdemir went to trial for an undetermined amount of time.

In the end, it didn’t matter.

Midnight Mania! Oezdemir-Shogun Off UFC Chile Due to Volkan’s Assault Charges

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Volkan Oezdemir is having visa issues, and that is forcing his fight with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua off of UFC: Chile. However, if you thought the UFC were going to find an easier opponent for the venerable Shogun, think again: they are planning on re-booking the May 19th bout, according to Combate. Originally, the fight was booked as the main event, but currently Kamaru Usman vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio is listed as the main event for a card that also includes Alexa Grasso and the re-booked Ray Borg vs. Brandon Moreno.

The difficulty lies in the felony assault charges Oezdemir faces, which are preventing him from travelling to South America for the Shogun bout.

The report has not yet been confirmed officially by the UFC.

Midnight Mania! McGregor in Custody, Will Face Assault Charges

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight, especially when Conor throws a dolly through a bus window

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Conor McGregor turned himself into police custody and is officially under arrest, as of 10:23 ET. He has multiple charges pending, per Ariel Helwani and NBC News.

This follows his wild day of throwing a dolly through a bus window, injuring several, as he targeted one half of UFC 223’s main event, Khabib Nurmagomedov. Khabib had confronted his teammate Artem Lobov the day before over a video Lobov made in which he spoke ill of Khabib. McGregor flew in from Ireland, showing up unexpectedly on media day. He found his way to the bus with a cadre of followers, and, after picking up a barricade, hurled a dolly through the window of a bus on which Khabib, as well as several other fighters and managers were sitting. Michael Chiesa suffered multiple lacerations and his fight with Anthony Pettis was cancelled; Ray Borg had small pieces of glass in his eye and his fight with Brandon Moreno was also cancelled. Artem Lobov, who was with McGregor during the fracas, had his fight with Alex Caceres cancelled as well. The UFC issued a statement in which it stated McGregor would not be welcome at UFC 223. Dana White, with his typical hyperbole, referred to the event as the most disgusting thing to happen in UFC history.

This isn’t the first aberrant behavior for the Irishman, who slapped an official and shoved a referee at a Bellator event last year, and allegedly got into a bar fight with the father of an Irish mobster, leading many to fear for his life. I posited back then we were seeing a familiar story, the descent of a superstar who has no higher mountains left to conquer. Graduating from monster cans and fines to dollies and jail time certainly supports that hypothesis.

Mug shots coming soon.

Stipe Miocic updated the official record:

McGregor’s escape didn’t last long.

This is no bueno. I feel bad for Ray Borg, and hope there is no permanent damage to his eyes.

Nick Newell wants to step in and fight Anthony Pettis- why not?

Even Norm Kelly, a city councilor in Toronto, had a take.

Jim Miller wrote a ballad about McGregor and cocaine

Dana White is hyperbolic but he’s right that it’s serious.

Another aside: Mike Perry wants to fight Emil Meek. Platinum vs. Valhalla.

Eventually it became true.

Justin Gaethje’s take is succinct.

Fortunately McGregor turned himself in and didn’t climb a tower.

A side note on Ali Abelaziz, who was in the bus with Khabib. He’s among MMA’s shadiest characters.

Gotta admit this made me laugh.

Let’s hope after all this that Khabib does make weight.

Good point

MMA Fighter To Be Extradited On Kidnapping, Torture Charges

Russian fighter Rustan Abdurakmanov made headline news in Thailand on Monday. The Full Metal Dojo (FMD) veteran is expected to be deported to Russia where he will face charges of torture, extortion, and robbery.

According to Thai Visa, Abdurakmanov (pictured left) was arrested in Bangkok at the request of the Russian embassy. His crimes are described as follows:

“He used guns and knives to threaten and torture businessmen in the extorting of money according to two warrants from Russian authorities and Interpol.

In December 2014 while pretending to be a policeman in the city of Artem, he beat up a security van driver and stole 210,000 roubles (120,000 baht). In April 2015 he abducted two Chinese businessmen from a wood yard at knifepoint before extorting $ 500.

The victims were handcuffed, taped and threatened with burning with a gas bottle.

Later the same month he was involved with others in a 915,000 rouble robbery of another businessman.”

Abdurakhmanov fought at Full Metal Dojo 13 and scored a submission win over Francois Xavier Leal de la Torre. His last fight was in August when he dropped a decision to Jiahefu Wuziazibieke at Rebel FC 5.

Colby Covington pressing charges against Fabricio Werdum: ‘He will probably end up in prison’

Hey, remember when UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg got sick of Angela Magana’s trash talk and slugged “Your Majesty” at the UFC summit earlier this year in Las Vegas?

If not, refresh your memory here.

That’s kind of where we’re at with the whole Fabricio Werdum vs. Colby Covington fiasco in Sydney, Australia, with the addition of an airborne boomerang (video). One that could land “Vai Cavalo” into trouble with law enforcement now that “Chaos” intends to press charges.

“He fucked up,” Covington told MMA Fighting. “There’s video and I speak the truth. He will be exposed soon, probably end up in Australia prison. He wrote a check his ass can’t cash. He’s on video so all his lies will be told soon.”

Magana went to the cops, as well.

Hopefully Covington waits until Sunday to play rat. Werdum is expected to headline Saturday night’s (Nov. 18, 2017) UFC Fight Night 121 event on FOX Sports 1 (results) and losing the Brazilian would strand Marcin Tybura without an opponent.
