Jason Knight replaces Chan Sung Jung, meets Ricardo Lamas at UFC 214

One intriguing UFC 214 featherweight matchup has been swapped for another.

Last week came the disappointing news that a knee injury had forced Chan Sung Jung out of his highly anticipated fight with Ricardo Lamas on July 29 at Anaheim’s Honda Center.

But Lamas now has a new foe: Jason Knight, the Mississippi hotshot working his way through the division. MMA Fighting confirmed the news after an initial report made by the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old Knight (17-2) has won four straight fights since dropping his UFC debut in 2015. Knight most recently scored a second-round technical knockout over Chas Kelly at UFC 211 for his 13th career stoppage win.

Lamas (17-5), a former featherweight title challenger, has won two out of his past three fights. In his most recent bout, Lamas scored a second-round submission over Charles Oliveira at UFC Fight Night 98.

Chan Sung Jung vs. Dennis Bermudez targeted for Super Bowl weekend headliner

“The Korean Zombie” is finally close to returning to action.

According to multiple sources, the UFC is currently working towards booking Chan Sung Jung vs. Dennis Bermudez as the main event for the Feb. 4 Fight Night event in Houston.

Jung (13-4) hasn’t fought since his Aug. 2013 featherweight title loss to Jose Aldo. He was forced to walk away from the sport for two years in order to fulfill his mandatory military service required of South Korean male citizens.

“I think this may extend my career,” Jung told MMAFighting.com in 2014, “because it gives me some much needed time to heal I’ll have time to work on my skills without pushing myself to the limit, which is necessary when training for a fight.”

Bermudez (16-5) has won his last two fights in a row. He most recently beat Rony Jason via unanimous decision in August.

The event, which will take place at the Toyota Center, marks just the second time since 2004 that the promotion doesn’t hold an event in Las Vegas on Super Bowl weekend. And like with UFC 169 in Newark, N.J. in 2014, the reason for the switch is because FOX is broadcasting the Super Bowl from Houston next year.
