UFC 224 Results: Amanda Nunes Brutalizes Raquel Pennington, Keeps Belt

It’s great being durable, but that trait can only take you so far.

Such is the case with Raquel Pennington, who challenged champ Amanda Nunes for her bantamweight belt last night in the main event of UFC 224. To her credit, Pennington took a beating and kept coming; alas, that doesn’t win fights.

Right from the outset, it was clear Nunes had all the power, as evidenced by her leg-kicks that sent Pennington to the canvas, and her combos and cage control, which constantly had Pennington on her back-foot and boxed in against the cage. None of her attempts at takedowns bore fruit in the first, although she did manage on in the second.

By Round 3, Pennington’s eye was a mess, and Nunes wasn’t doing her any favors with the way she was aggressively out-boxing her. Nunes even scored a takedown of her own.

Nunes hit another takedown in the fourth, and opened up a cut on Pennington’s nose with a knee. It was only a matter of time, and Nunes needed about half of Round 5 to pound the challenger out.

UFC 212 results: Paulo Borrachinha brutalizes Oluwale Bamgbose in Brazil, remains undefeated

admin / June 4, 2017 / No comments

Undefeated Brazilian Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) up-and-comer, Paulo Borrachinha, looked to keep his perfect record intact tonight (Sat., June 3, 2017) when he collided with Oluwale Bamgbose on UFC 212’s pay-per-view (PPV) main card from inside Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Mission accomplished, but he had to weather an early, aggressive storm from Bamgbose to ultimately score a technical knockout win in the second round.

Both men walked into the cage looking like absolute monsters. Bamgbose got the action started with a nice hard shot, but Paulo didn’t even flinch. Bamgbose continued with his unorthodox attacks, setting up a takedown along the fence; however, Paulo was able to rip him off his back and clip him with a glancing head kick on the break. Bamgbose continued to keep the pressure, nailing the Brazilian with hard kicks and punches, but again, Paulo kept walking right through everything. Paulo began to grow impatient, stalking Bamgbose and drilling him with tremendous body shots along the fence. Bamgbose fired back, but Paulo was landing terrifying, powerful strikes. Paulo got him in a Muay Thai clinch along the fence and landed a knee to the forehead as Bamgbose broke free and tried to escape the assault. He was able to survive the round, but he was clearly winded and, most likely, wounded.

Bamgbose came out with chopping overhands to start round two, which he followed up with a few combinations to the body. He attempted a kick to the ribs, but, in doing so, he fell on his back. Paulo immediately jumped on top and started to unload vicious ground-and-pound. Bamgbose attempted to defend, but he just had nothing left in the tank to get back to his feet or in an advantageous position. Indeed, Paulo kept pounding until the referee pulled him off.

Wow … that was violent. And another very impressive (and brutal) performance for hulking The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) “Brazil” prospect.

UFC 185: Rafael dos Anjos Brutalizes Pettis, Jedrzejczyk Scores Gold

admin / March 15, 2015 / No comments

Rafael dos Anjos and Joanna Jedrzejczyk both scored historic victories last night at UFC 185 in Dallas. Both had entered the cage as challengers against UFC champions. Both, in fact, were betting underdogs, and both were facing crowd favorites — American champions in front of a partisan crowd. They came from different places, for sure […]

UFC 153 results: Glover Teixeira brutalizes Fabio Maldonado

According to the UFC brass, Glover Teixeira is the guy that nobody wants to fight. He has vicious power, black belt ground skills and a limitless engine. At UFC 153, Teixeira did nothing to dispel his believers.

For two rounds, Teixeira brutalized Fabio Maldonado. Somehow, Maldonado was standing at the end of those 10 minutes, but the cageside official had seen enough, and protected him from himself, stopping the fight. The official ruling was a second-round TKO.

“This guy, he’s not human,” Teixeira said afterward.

The rising light-heavyweight contender said that prior to the fight, he had told his trainer that he didn’t care how tough Maldonado’s chin was, he was going to knock him out.

At first, it didn’t seem like it would take him long to accomplish that. He knocked Maldonado down early in the first and spent the better part of the next five minutes smashing him with punches and elbows. Midway through the round, his face was bruised. By the end, it was bloodied, too.

But Maldonado showed amazing heart, and actually got back to his feet by the end of the first, stunning Teixeira with a trio of hard left hooks before the closing horn.

Teixeira came back out after the one-minute break and immediately took the fight to the ground, where again, he hammered Maldonado for most of the round, until the cageside official had seen enough.

Teixeira’s 17th straight win improved his record to 19-2, and he’ll certainly be moving up the division’s rankings as a result.

Maldonado fell to 18-6.
