Free Fight! Watch Alvarez Wreck Dos Anjos, Capture Crown

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez, is slowly marching his way back to the 155-pound title, currently held by undefeated kingpin Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The next step in his quest to reclaim gold is what may be a title eliminator bout against streaking contender Dustin Poirier, a rematch that takes place in the UFC on FOX 30 main event this Saturday night (July 28, 2018) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Before we get to this weekend’s grudge match, the promotion wants to show you, the fickle fight fan, what kind of damage “The Underground King” can inflict when he’s in the zone. The best example of said carnage, at least in recent years, is his title-winning performance against then-champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 90 in summer 2016.

Alvarez (29-5, 1 NC) would cough up his crown to Conor McGregor in his very first title defense, then battle to a controversial No Contest against “The Diamond” at UFC 211 in May 2017. After a recent technical knockout win over Justin Gaethje, the former Bellator champ finds himself back in the Octagon with Poirier.

Cheating Allegations Rock Dos Anjos Camp Following UFC 225

And here you thought greasing was a French-Canadian thing

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight contender, Rafael dos Anjos, is being called on the carpet in the wake of his unanimous decision loss to Colby Covington in the UFC 225 pay-per-view (PPV) main event last weekend in Chicago, Illinois (replay).

That’s because “Chaos” is claiming the Brazilian was greased up for their interim title fight, which lasted all five rounds (recap), making it much harder to get taken down and punished by the longtime wrestler.

Covington talks to BJ Penn Radio:

“I was gonna take him down and beat him up, but my takedowns weren’t as effective because he was definitely greasing. He was 100-percent greased. Usually, when I get those bodylocks behind you there’s no way to slip out, but I could feel him slip out, you know. He’s just another filthy animal, cheater greaser. I think before the fight he was putting on the coconut butter – whatever they do – and then the baby oil. He was definitely doing it. I tried a couple of shots on his legs and literally my hands slipped from up on top of his leg and he was able to like slither on through.”

Dos Anjos is not the only UFC 225 fighter accused of greasing.

No action is likely to take place because Covington emerged victorious, which not only earned him the substitute strap, but also a death match title-unification bout against reigning division kingpin Tyron Woodley.

As for Dos Anjos, he’ll head to the back of this line, joining fellow title hopefuls Stephen Thompson and Demian Maia, who came up short in their respective (and hopefully greaseless) bouts against Woodley and Covington.

Rafael Dos Anjos Is a Champ for Destroying Colby Covington on a Conference Call

Former lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos deserves our respect for all that he’s accomplished in the cage. He deserves our undying love and affection for totally destroying Colby Covington on a media conference call today.

Dos Anjos and Covington are fighting in the co-main event of UFC 225, and Covington got that opportunity by running his mouth and being a complete douche. But it’s not a good persona that Covington has adopted – it’s more annoying than amusing – and when he gets slaughtered in the cage, the payoff will be never having to see him in the spotlight again.

Here’s a sample of the back-and-forth Dos Anjos and Covington had on the call, courtesy of MMAFighting:

“I grew up in Brazil in the favelas, man. Bullies, trash talking, doesn’t work with me,” dos Anjos said Thursday on a heated UFC 225 media conference call. “But I think Colby, he’s just trying [to be Conor McGregor]. Conor does it well. Conor, he’s a rich man, he makes a lot of money, he’s a businessman, and I can respect that. But Colby, he’s just a worse version of Conor McGregor. He’s trying to be like Conor, but when he loses to me, his career is done. All he has is talk, nothing else.”

“Dude, you don’t believe one word that’s coming out of your mouth, Ralphie,” Covington shot back. “Let’s be honest, you ain’t teaching me sh*t. I’ve been to Brazil more than you’ve been there. You live in America, land of the free and home of the brave.”

“That’s a Conor McGregor joke,” dos Anjos responded. “That’s Conor McGregor’s joke, man. You’ve got to create something new. … You’re so fake, bro. You’re so fake. I’m about to be a legend, man, getting two belts. You’re so fake. You say you’re going to say something to Joe Rogan’s face? You say nothing when you see people face-to-face, man. You’re a fraud. You just look at your phone, man. You just bow your head. You just bow your head down and not even look around, man. You don’t even look around.”

“Yeah, because I’m professional fighter,” Covington replied.

“Nah, you’re nothing,” dos Anjos said. “You’re fake. If you’re trying to be a bad guy, you’ve got to be a bad guy all the time. You’re trying to be a bad guy, man. You’ve got to be a bad guy all the time. Don’t be fake.”

If I had to guess, I’d say that when Covington got off the phone, he ran into his bathroom and cried.
