Report: Dos Anjos Vs Covington In Talks For UFC 224 In Rio

I think at this point, every division should have two champions. One for the fighter who wins the title, and another for the highest-ranking contender willing to defend it. Kind of how like Darth Vader did all the dirty work for Emperor Palpatine.

“Something-something-something interim title.”

That appears to be the case with the upcoming UFC 224 pay-per-view (PPV) event, slotted for May 12, 2018 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos is in talks to collide with 170-pound motormouth Colby Covington.

Dos Anjos was anointed next title contender by none other than UFC President Dana White; however, it’s hard to fight for the strap when the reigning champion is unable (or just flat-out refuses) to fight.

Hence the “welterwhiner” phenomenon.

The Brazilian is 3-0 since jumping up from the lightweight division (28-9 overall) and scored his most impressive win to date by outworking Robbie Lawler in Winnipeg. Covington (13-1), meanwhile, has won five in a row and recently bested Demian Maia in the filthy dump called Brazil.

Anyone out there in MMA land in favor of this potential pairing?

Rafael dos Anjos Rips Tyron Woodley for Discussing Fight ‘That Makes No Sense’

It should come as no surprise that Rafael dos Anjos didn’t respond well to the news that the UFC was in discussion to book Tyron Woodley vs. Nate Diaz this summer.

Stephen Thompson Wants Rafael Dos Anjos

Stephen Thompson scrapped with Tyron Woodley twice for the belt, but couldn’t quite get it done. To make matters worse, their last fight kind of stunk, so for “Wonderboy” to get another shot at the title, he’s going to have to build up some momentum. He did great out-striking Jorge Masvidal at UFC 217, but […]

Midnight Mania! Watch that 24-second Rafael Dos Anjos blitz on Robbie Lawler from Bruce Buffer’s seat

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA, each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Rafael Dos Anjos is a monster. Robbie Lawler is an animal. When they collided at this weekend’s UFC event, there was a lot of anticipation. While Rafael dos Anjos ended up running away with the bout on the scorecards, the collision of dos Anjos’ endless cardio with Lawler’s limitless toughness did result in one of the most remarkable sequences I’ve seen in a long time.

It’s rare in MMA, with 4-ounce gloves, to get a blitz this long without a fighter either going unconscious or finding a way to break the attack. Lawler did neither, covering up, taking shots on his shoulders and simply absorbing what he couldn’t avoid. That’s his superpower, and it was on full display last night. Afterwards, all dos Anjos could say?

My hands are hurting because I hit the guy in the head. He’s got a pretty tough head.

Insomnia

Which option is next for Rafael dos Anjos?

This should be immortalized, because it is truly the quintessential answer MMA deserves, from Kamaru Usman.

Stipe Miocic, fighting fires or fighting heavyweights. It’s all fighting.

Fighting is in my blood!

Heavyweight boxer Ray Mercer knocked out Tim Sylvia, so he’s an authority in two sports and he had this amazing insight to share:

Throwback to this amazing video of boxing coach Eric Kelly.

John Wayne Parr compared himself to Mirko Cro Cop, because, well, why not. They do kinda look alike.

This qualifies as martial arts… right?

Widely respected MMA coach Robert Follis died this weekend. It was ruled a suicide. May he rest in peace. Many fighters have had remarkably good things to say about Follis’ impact on their lives, including Nate Quarry and Kevin Lee.

I have nothing to say about this.

I have nothing to say about this either, frankly, except that it was an awesome fight.

Daniel Cormier managed to piss off a lot of pro wrestlers over the weekend with his criticism of… whatever this is…

Oh, and he also admitted he thinks Yoel Romero would beat him in a straight wrestling match.

Slips, Rips, KO Clips

Safe to say he was not ready for this.

I love a good body shot.

A spinning wheel kick KO is special.
