UFC 224 Results: Amanda Nunes Brutalizes Raquel Pennington, Keeps Belt

It’s great being durable, but that trait can only take you so far.

Such is the case with Raquel Pennington, who challenged champ Amanda Nunes for her bantamweight belt last night in the main event of UFC 224. To her credit, Pennington took a beating and kept coming; alas, that doesn’t win fights.

Right from the outset, it was clear Nunes had all the power, as evidenced by her leg-kicks that sent Pennington to the canvas, and her combos and cage control, which constantly had Pennington on her back-foot and boxed in against the cage. None of her attempts at takedowns bore fruit in the first, although she did manage on in the second.

By Round 3, Pennington’s eye was a mess, and Nunes wasn’t doing her any favors with the way she was aggressively out-boxing her. Nunes even scored a takedown of her own.

Nunes hit another takedown in the fourth, and opened up a cut on Pennington’s nose with a knee. It was only a matter of time, and Nunes needed about half of Round 5 to pound the challenger out.

Amanda Nunes: It’s ‘Sad’ That Coaches Made Pennington Continue in Fifth Round at UFC 224

Amanda Nunes gradually inflicted more and more damage on Raquel Pennington as their UFC 224 headlining bout progressed, so much so that Pennington didn’t want to continue after the fourth round.

Behold the Greatness That is Amanda Nunes Crushing Ronda Rousey

admin / May 8, 2018 / No comments

UFC female bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes is headlining UFC 224 this weekend. And though she’ll be facing Raquel Pennington, and the bout takes place in her home-country of Brazil, the only storyline that matters – will ever matter – is that Nunes once beat the crap out of Ronda Rousey.

Seriously, Nunes could retire tomorrow, and still those highlight reels will show her crushing Rousey like an annoying bug.

Let’s set the scene, shall we?

When Nunes faced Rousey at UFC 207, the former was the champ and the latter the challenger, because Holly Holm had head-kicked the belt away from Rousey, then Miesha Tate choked Holm, and Nunes pounded out Tate. But despite her challenger status, Rousey was far and away the star of the show. She was, after all, the reason there were females fighting in the Octagon.

Unfortunately, the pressures of fame bore down heavily on the judo Olympian, and with every eye and lens upon her, Rousey was all frowns.

She was also all bluster and no training – as evidenced by the complete destruction Nunes inflicted upon her via her fists. Rousey was TKO’d in a whole 48 seconds.

So here’s the fight. Watch and enjoy.
